There is nothing better when it comes to sports discussions than a list.

A pretty interesting one came out today — NFL.com’s list of all 128 teams in major college football in order of the strength of their quarterback situation.

My thoughts on where UNT stands are pretty well known.

This list is ridiculous. He has UTEP ranked at 48 and Texas in the 80s? Seriously?

Do you understand this is a QB list. Don't know where you got 80s for UT?

66. Texas

Starter/backup: David Ash/Tyrone Swoopes

Buzz: Ash (6-3, 227) is a solid starter -- when healthy. But he has had concussion issues, making his health an iffy proposition (he played in just three games last season, then hurt his foot during the spring). He is a solid passer who should fare well in Texas' revamped offense, which should be heavier on the run this fall and give him an ability to use a lot of play-action. Swoopes (6-4, 240) is a good athlete but far from a polished quarterback. His running ability is ahead of his passing ability, though he does have a big arm. If Ash is hurt again, the Longhorns are going to struggle.

48. UTEP

Starter/backup: Jameill Showers/Mack Leftwich

Buzz: Showers competed with Johnny Manziel for Texas A&M's starting job in 2012. Everyone knows how that turned out, and Showers left for UTEP. He played well when healthy last season. Showers (6-2, 230) has a good arm and is dangerous on the run as a passer; he also has OK speed and can run over defenders. But he missed the final five games with a shoulder injury, and the offense disappeared without him. If he's healthy, UTEP's offense will be effective.

Not sure Showers gives UTEP that big of an advantage, but not sure Ash and Swoopes are the top 2 QBs heading into the game with us in the first game.

OK 66. It's still ridiculous. Tom Brady couldn't perform with the o-line in EP. These preseason hypothetical ranking are pretty silly. Especially when you're trying to judge players who haven't played college ball yet. Like McNulty & Greer. They have barely played yet so you can't really predict how they will be. Edited by UNTexas

Don't underestimate the power of young Leftwich.

It is not comparing how well they will play, it is ranking the current QB situation at each school. Given that we have very little experience at the position, our situation is probably where it should be.This list is not about OL, defense, WRs, or anything but the QB situation at each school. I would bet that in a ranking last year, we would have been much higher with the experience that DT had going into the season. It is not a predictor of talent, simply looking at where we are right now.

Yep. We would probably have been ranked higher than Texas last year.

      I’m OK with the Eagle/Texas, just OK with it. But I wished it was like the floor of the Pit where the eagle is larger and goes outside the state border. That emphasizes the Eagle. As it is now, my brain sees Texas first, and that’s not good branding.

      Idea for new uniform design

      Howdy! So, this user recently saw the hockey uniforms being discussed, and had a thought: What if the football uniforms (and perhaps basketball and even others as well) riff on these with the 'Mean Green Texas Flag' either on the shoulder pads (in the same direction, of course) AND/OR on the helmets....but, here's the caveat: the 'Eagle' logo takes flight and retires to the nest for a short period, and is replaced with an Eagle 'beak', made out of the aforementioned 'Mean Green Texas Flag' design? The hockey uniforms show that the flag design almost looks like an eagle's head already....so....why not go all the way with it and pull a [insert college team with bird-of-prey as a mascot here, like Southern Miss or Iowa] and assert that 'this team represents ALL of Texas' and concerns over having an abstract nickname with an unrelated mascot are alleviated, because it's less 'eagle-eagle' and more 'Mean Green' of North Texas. Traditionalists who wish to remember the Eagle are still appeased at the same time because the flag itself would now be in the shape of an eagle's head, so....it's a great compromise, IMHO, AND makes the university look much more 'big league' than previous regimes and designs have! There's no more bickering over the shade of green (although this user still prefers the 'gumball mint/veridian green' from 2013ish...the hockey uniforms still look like that, thankfully) and logo/name/mascot anymore after such a design is implemented and pushed, IMHO. Players will feel like 'the eyes of Texas are upon them' and quite literally, 'on their shoulders'. At least factor it into the uniform rotation for certain big games, like vs. UT-Austin, 'Bama, LSU, etc.. Here's the hockey uniform thread for the pics: Take the Mean Green 'beak' Texas flag from the shoulder areas and sell that to the top brass/marketing department to push on merchandise and this user would like to buy apparel with such a design to wear around (focus more on 'Mean Green' as opposed to the bush-league-sounding 'North Texas' to look less regional)! Who knows....maybe the recent tweet about new merchandise coming this summer and fall already have such a focus and they beat this user to the punch on the idea?
