First C-USA Championship

After claiming 6 Sun Belt championship titles in 2012-2013, the Mean Green teams were shut out in our first year in Conference USA. The soccer team finished 2nd in both the West and in the conference tournament to affiliate member, Colorado College. I hadn't realized until I came across the following articles that the Tigers were leaving for the Mountain West in 2014. The soccer team has a great schedule and hopefully Coach Hedlund's team has a great chance to claim the first of many C-USA championships for North Texas this upcoming fall

2014 Mean Green Soccer Schedule:

Aug 22 Texas Southern 7PM

Aug 24 Oregon State 11AM

Aug 29 @Houston

Aug 31 @ Lamar

Sept 5 Abilene Christian 7PM

Sept 7 Vanderbilt 1PM

Sept 12 Oklahoma 7PM

Sept 14 @Houston Baptist

Sept 19 Gonzaga 7PM

Sept 21 TCU 1PM

Sept 26 LA Tech 7PM

Sept 28 Southern Miss 1PM

Oct 3 @UTEP

Oct 5 @UTSA

Oct 12 @Rice

Oct 17 @ Florida Atlantic

Oct 19 @FIU

Oct 24 Charlotte 7PM

Oct 26 Old Dominion 1PM

Oct 31 WKU 7PM

There are 12 home games slated for the fall with 1 Pac 12, 1 SEC, and 2 Big 12 foes making up one-third of those contests. Make sure you mark your calendars and try to make it out to at least one match to support one of our most successful programs in our quest to win C-USA hardware.

A few early games even coincide with a home football game the next day/previous day. Abilene Christian/Vanderbilt (SMU) and Gonzaga/TCU (Nicholls State). I'm thinking I might start a tailgate on Friday night, catch a soccer game, and then keep up the party the entire next day

Soccer is my favourite to win the first one, with tennis following closely behind. Now that Denver is gone soccer should be in a good position. With all the girls being one year older, I think tennis should have a good chance also.

Soccer will win before Tennis as long as Rice is in CUSA

nod to Harry for being the first to post about our first CUSA championship:

The soccer team clinched at least a share of the regular season title today...they can claim the outright championship with a win or draw Friday night:

I realize it's Halloween and many of you "can't" attend, but for those of us who can work it in, I'm sure Coach Hedlund and the gals would greatly appreciate the fan support as the Mean Green go for the crown. It's just a two hour commitment from 7-9PM.

as chronicled in the above post and by Mean Green Matt (), the Mean Green soccer team clinched sole possession of North Texas' first CUSA championship. Less than 15 hours later, the men's cross country claimed North Texas 2nd CUSA championship. Good to see some hardware start rolling in during year 2 of our current affiliation!
