New UNT QB class brings competition to vacant position

Senior quarterback Derek Thompson is graduating from UNT, paving the way for a four-man race to the starting position next season.

The team recruited two more quarterbacks, freshman Connor Means and sophomore Josh Greer, and junior Andrew McNulty and freshman Dajon Williams return after backing up Thompson last year. The incoming players have potential on their side, while the latter look to utilize their experience at UNT to take the lead.

“You talk about wide open and with Josh and Connor coming in here, I think it’s going to be really fun for our fans and coaches to watch the quarterback competition,” head coach Dan McCarney said.

This is DW''s job to lose, as I have been saying. Coach Canales sent me a response on twitter months ago when I was asking him about DW. His response alone told me everything I needed to know about the QB competition. A WR also talked to me about DW. He told me that he is learning and if he can learn the system he will be really, really special. IMO, if DW can step up this off season and mature mentally and physically then he will run away with the job.

Something tells me that it will be Greer in the end. Taller, great throwing accuracy, strong arm and some experience beyond high school (although not in this system), and having 149 passes with only one interception at Navarro last year combine to make a very strong candidate.

I don't think that Means is ready yet but it should be a good battle among the other three.

No, but they wouldn't praise his potential if he sucked tho.

I disagree. I think it's just called being a good coach/teammate.

Also, see Brock Bergland about potential.

I hope he's our savior, but we know just a tad more about him than we do means or shanbour. And you can't always trust what you hear from the team. Unless you happen to be a friend of chico or the WR you refer to.
