Carrington Ward, a 6-foot-2 guard who is playing this season at San Jacinto Junior College, committed to UNT on Sunday.

Ward has been on UNT’s radar for quite a while. He spent last season at Palm Beach in Florida, where he averaged 14 points a game. He has since transferred to San Jacinto Junior College, where he is playing this season.

Another casualty from that infamous 2013 class; that never made it to Denton (grades). Since he really wants to come here, why not sign him in the spring or summer after he graduates?

Not getting excited about this kid until he plays his first game here.

Odds are still 50/50 that he never makes campus.

Considering this staff's success rate 90 was being positive!

Exactly. Do we need to re-pin the 5 verbal commits' threads to remind us? Actually no, please don't do that.

Well, we have one spot left in this signing class and we don't have a true post. If we get Jalen Jones that would just confirm to me that Benford wants to play small ball.

It seems to me like Benford doesn't mind being short-handed at the two post positions. He wants to spread the floor and basically play hot potato around the perimeter until someone has an open shot, often a three. As long as Benny is here we'll probably see three and four guard lineups all for probably the majority of every game.

Do people not get that he has already screwed up one chance to be playing right now by not getting his grades?

Throw on top of that the inability of this coaching staff to get recruits to or keep recruits at UNT, and it makes for a very dicey situation with this kid.

What inability to get recruits. Benford's classes have been as highly rated as Jone's classes were. If we worried about eligibility, we would have never gotten Mitchell.

Pretty sure this is tongue in cheek, but if not:

If Carrington had played for the US 19 and under team and was considered an NBA prospect, I'd be as excited and hopeful I was for Mitchell. Not the case

Throw on top of that a coach who hasn't been able to keep one high school recruit on campus, and this is a particularly precarious recruiting situation.

Yes, and no: Jones last classes were getting better and better.

Jones at NT at least, was fairly usually as a HC. He pretty much recruited players and developed them. Yes, he lost a few and ran off some but only after giving them a fair shot.

Benford based on a small sample, has no problem running someone off if he can get what he thinks is a better player. So he is willing to take a lot more chances on players and is always looking for someone better. There are lots if not the majority of coaches that operate close to the same way.

Based on Benford having to recruit against his horrible inaugural season, I think he has done well. I think he recruited a group of players that can win, but on the other hand he really is not winning many recruiting battles with peer institutions.
