The focus when it comes to the UNT mens basketball team over the last few days has been the final spot on the roster and the comings and goings of a few prospects, including Cincinnati center Kelvin Gaines and former Alabama State signee Egi Gjikondi.

Theres a bit more going on around the program, including the rapid rise up the draft board of Tony Mitchell.

The Blazers worked out Mitchell this week. The Oregonian has a short story and video interview it posted yesterday.

Its looking more and more like Mitchell might end up being a lottery pick, which UNT head coach Tony Benford predicted weeks ago.

"In a side note, all of UNT’s seniors are graduating on time and all of the Mean Green’s returning players are going to be eligible heading into next season without needing summer school to get there.

That’s a pretty significant achievement.

UNT also has its highest team GPA in recent memory."

I may not have much faith in Benford turning things around on the court, but I have to give credit where due for the off the court success.

      Doesn't seem new, but unlimited transfers

      I can't blame them, the system in place allows them to profit and to move freely. We may not like it, but it's the system. I'm hoping schools taking over the collectives, it's already happening for reasons I stated above, will usher in contracts and buy outs for players. We've opened Pandora's box so we aren't going back to amateur sports, the best we can get out of it is payment on our investments.

      Agree, there was some semblance of programs doing the right thing and following the rules even though they were always getting busted for violations, and everyone knew cheating was going on. It's why I was saying the veil is off now, and making everyone play by those rules has supercharged the whole thing. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the schools aren't supposed to work with NIL collectives to get players right? But everyone including UNT is 100% working with these collectives to send out deals to players. Same kind of fake rule following like we used to have, just more of it now.

      I’m not the type who’s going to say, “I’m done with college sports” and that be it. I’m moreso the guy whose interest is just going to wane to the point that I don’t watch anymore. It would actually free up a lot of time that I could be more productive🤣🤣

      I don’t completely disagree, but at least they used to have sit out a year if they transferred. If I’m going to lose a year of eligibility, I’m going to think long and hard before I leave for another school. Now? No reason whatsoever to stay.
