UNT picks up CB commit Chad Davis

This is the kind of talent I expect McCarney to pull in. Hopefully this kid can push Whitfield into a nickel or dimeback position, where he will be great.

Our secondary and LB are looking solid. Now if we can just sign or develop some DL we will be bowling.

OR, failing that, maybe if we get a few more talented DB's like this young man, and then we can get more "coverage sacks".

God I miss the days when opposing QB's were running for their lives.

Why would you want to push a kid who made 2nd team All Conference as a red shirt freshman out of the starting role????? At a position he converted to in Summer practice????

Seriously, people!

Damon Sayles at ESPN posted a pay article but here is the free part:

Three-star cornerback Chad Davis (Richmond, Texas/Bush) liked the idea of playing early and playing close to home. North Texas seemed to be the perfect fit in satisfying those factors.
Davis verbally committed to the Mean Green on Thursday and became the 14th commitment for UNT’s 2013 recruiting class. A 5-foot-10, 170-pound corner, Davis chose North Texas over offers from Tulsa and UTSA.

Well excuse me for wanting to upgrade our talent level. I like Whitfield and want him on the field in a position he can best succeed. While he made some plays, that was also a function of how often he got picked on. He is undersized and that was exploited by some bigger receivers. I would rather see Whitfield covering guys in the slot vs. all alone on an island on the outside. We can win CUSA with Whitfield as our 3rd cb. I like him, I would just like to have some better options in front of him.
