The Mean Green have featured one of the nation’s prolific offenses during Eric Morris’ first two seasons as the program’s coach. UNT averaged 33.5 points per game in 2024 on its way to a 6-7 finish following a loss to Texas State in the First Responder Bowl. The Mean Green’s success was tied in part to quarterback Chandler Morris, who entered the transfer portal before UNT’s bowl game and landed at Virginia. Eric Morris will have to replace not only his starting quarterback but also his top three receivers and his leading rusher. The good news is UNT has a host of promising players set to return as well as some incoming recruits who look like they can make an impact. Here are six who could make the explosive — fireworks-like — plays UNT is looking for this fall. -

Summer Work Laying the Foundation for Robinson's Debut Campaign

Cleveland State was far and away the best team on that end of the floor in the Horizon League while allowing 66.5 points per game last season. Every other team in the conference gave up at least 71.0. UNT ranked third nationally last season while holding opponents to 60.1 points per game. The reason for the Vikings’ success was evident in the way Robinson’s first UNT team honed in on the defensive end during practice this week. “That’s the way we’ve been,” Daniyal Robinson said. “We want defense to be our foundation and then move forward. The guys are embracing that.” Robinson praised his staff for helping a new batch of players adapt to his approach. “Our coaches do a great job of teaching and breaking down film with these guys,” Robinson said. “They have done a great job this summer on both sides of the ball.
