---He was not a good guy by any standards ... but what happened was completely uncalled for.... I was once shot at by a cop late at night when I was on the job where I was supposed to be [ didn't even know he was there and he gave me no warning, thought I was a burgler]. I respect the police greatly but they have their idiots too. In today's world he would have been fired and should have been, but wasn't.

I agree about the senseless beating but I wonder about how much of it he brought upon himself. As I recall there were two others with him and they were not beaten because they followed instructions. I've wondered what I'd have done as one of the policemen. I think that it's likely I would have done the same as they did with the good sense to stop after a blow or two.

People should go back and view the unedited version of the video. The jury saw it, and it was the main reason for the acquittal. The public didn't, because in the pre-Internet era, the public only saw what the media allowed them to see.

While the full video by no means fully exonerates the officers, it provides a context that wasn't given in the initial and follow up media reports in 1991.

A similarity to the Zimmerman situation perhaps? Amazing how reality sheds light on things the press and public seldom see....trials and in depth investigations can be interesting things and lead to interesting outcomes for the press and public when the real facts and details start emerging. That's a good reason to let the courts do their thing BEFORE getting all up and arms and doing, saying or printing stupid things....just sayin....

I had to look this up and I ended up with a good laugh. Thanks.

I think every convicted/suspected felon in a big media case (read Sandusky, Zimmerman, et al...) should have to do a radio call-in show with the Sport's Princess. That'd make for some great bits.

--- The full tape does show they were justified in the beginning but they way over did it.... You are right that what most media showed was not fully accurate.. By showing only part of what had happened it likely led to the insane riots... had they shown all of it the part before the beating... the riots likely would not been so severe or not happened at all because people would not have been so outraged.

--- This is why I get ticked at one NEWS network that regularly makes claims that may be partially true but but no means tell the whole truth. The whole truth is what matters. if they report it as news it should be true (and double/triple checked) and as accurate as possible. Don't imply things might be true when you are pretty sure they aren't and don't leave the wrong impression about things either. That isn't what journalism should be.

---Current example is getting upset about the Executive priviledge deal (his first) like it has never happened before... well maybe they have a small point... but the previous president did it six times and also had a program that provided guns to drug dealers...[ hoping they kill each other off ]... as did the Reagan administation in the Iran-Contra deal.. Just tell the whole truth.. All were terrribly stupid "programs".

SIgh....

So close to argeement.

Surely you realize the irony in saying that Rodney King is why you hate FOX news when the terrible reporting that led to the riots occurred by all the major (liberal) news networks before FOX was even in existence, right?

And you should realize that if that lying network FOX had been around back then, the full video would have been played (much like FOX outing the liberal networks showing a 12 year old picture of Trayvon Martin, not the picture with the gold grill prominently displayed at a much more accurate age). As a matter of fact, if there are not riots in the street if Zimmerman is acquitted, you should be thankful for FOX (along with some other bloggers') reporting.

As to Rodney King, we completely agree. The officers were intially justified in their use of force, but continued for far too long after King was ready to be cuffed. Gotta control that adrenaline.

The people that rioted were animals and would have rioted no matter what version of the tape was played. The idiots were burning the stores of innocent store owners, no reason for that animalistic behavior.

---Pretty much agree but the longer version MIGHT have prevented or at least lessened it .... It took something to trigger it all... and this did. The crazy thing is they pretty much destroyed their own neighborhood and a lot of businesses never returned ....how stupid were they?

Why the addition to my "name"? -- &#045 ...cussing? and and an interesting number?? .. or just a mess up?

-----

Geeez ... some of yawl view everything as liberal or conservative... and that the media is the enemy... it was bad journalism [ just tell the whole truth which I am always "preaching" ] ..... and not any effort to cause a riot... Just because someones disagrees with you on something doesn't mean they are a pagan liberal socialist..

Point is the media didn't show the 1st part of the tape (King attacking the officers) because they wanted their white cops beat poor, helpless black man story. The first 12 seconds of the video didn't jive with their storyline, so they just left it out.

Much like the edited Zimmerman 911 call.

Why do they do it? I think it's a combination of wanting a hot story, and then finding one that fits their political views. That makes it so much easier to justify to one's self.

You know, kinda like "So what if we cut the 1st 12 seconds. I mean, we all know white cops hate black people, so who cares about King attacking the officers, anyway."

--- You are probably mostly right ..... and they were very irresponsible in not reporting the "Whole Truth". Some national networks did show the whole tape in/near the beginning [i I saw it about that time ] but I suspect the local station didn't and that is where the riots were.... so they happened.

--- Not reporting the whole story on anything creates division and hate.... this event, political , anything... that is why I dislike NEWS stories that do this... This and the Rush Limbough types are also a huge reason why America is so divided now. Both parties are Christian, both are patriotic, no one likes taxes but all want a good quality of life, and both want what is best for America but I dislike the fact that so many have signed a pledge of allegiance to a no-tax person [Norquest ] instead of America and what it needs. News sourses needs to be honest and not inflamatory...
