Last year we recruited 2 major transfers...both originallly 4 * players

Cam Feldt from Arkansas OL 6-5, 290, 4*

Marcus Trice DB from Oklahoma 4*

Current year" RB Reggie pegram from Purdue 2* 6-0, 211, 4.54

Current year" WR Darius Terrell from University of Texas 4* 6-2, 213, 4.55

Hopefully the CUSA status will help in recruiting but if we keep on getting bonified 4* players we can really build a better team.

Once a player is in college with another program for 2 or even just 1 year, are their * ratings by rivals and/or scout relevant anymore?

I would submit no. Playing time/stats at said previous program should be the way to sell how good the player is...and reason for leaving the program...

Anyways, here's to hoping we see some high school commits soon. The quiet is starting to scare me a little bit. These transfers, to me anyway, resemble juco kids. I still MUCH MUCH prefer to build a program with 4 years(or redshirt 5) players... Yeah, I guess this is stating the obvious, so...sorry?

Juco and transfer division 1 athletes can be hard to determine if their rankings by Scout or Rival is relevant. But juco and transfer athletes should not be discounted. Juco and Transfered athletes have and can make major impacts on college programs.

Every major college recruits from the junior college. Many athlete began their college careersn not because of their athletic ability but because they cannot meet the NCAA academic standards. Yes, it is a gamble that can have major payoff.

Athletes that have started out in Junior College include future Hall of Famer Albert Pujois of the Cardinals, Super Bowl star QB Aaron Rodgers of the Packers, Major League Baseball All Star Evan Longoria of the Rays, the legendary Nolan Ryan, Danielle Adams, MVP of the Women’s Basketball Final Four for National Champion Texas A/M (30 points and 9 rebounds in Title Game win vs Notre Dame), WNBA superstar Sheryl Swoops, several of the key players on the Marquette University men’s basketball team that made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in March, Ben Wallace of the Pistons, and Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers. Heisman Trophy winner O.J. Simpson.

Athletes are released and transfer from division 1 programs for reasons other then a lack of ability. Sometimes the system changes and the athlete no longer fits. Best known example is Troy Aikman. After Aikman was injured in 1985 at Oklahoma, Switzer and offensive coordinator Jim Donnan were forced to switch back to the wishbone offense under freshman quarterback Jamelle Holieway. The team went on to win the 1985 National Championship. With Holieway established as the starting quarterback at OU, Aikman decided to transfer to UCLA Switzer oversaw Aikman's transfer to UCLA, a program under Terry Donahue that was more conducive to a passing quarterback. He had to redshirt one year due to college transfer rules but went on to lead the Bruins to a 20-4 record over two seasons.

Sometimes athletes find themselves in situation where is no room advancement.Cam Newton was initially a member of the Florida Gators and found himself in a backup role to Tim Tebow. He transfered to Blinn College, where his team won a national junior college football championship. Newton was then recruited by head coach Gene Chizik of Auburn University and transferred once more. He became just the third player in major college football history to both rush and pass for 20 or more touchdowns in a single season. His performance earned him the Heisman Trophy as the most outstanding college football player, and he led Auburn to their second national championship in school history, despite controversy concerning his eligibility. In his NFL debut, Newton became the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to throw for 400 yards in his NFL regular-season opener, breaking Peyton Manning's rookie record.
