Former Dallas Star found dead

Former Dallas Star Roman Lyashenko was found dead in his hotel room in Turkey, Reuters reported today.

Lyashenko, 24, a center for the Rangers, had been vacationing.

"On Sunday morning, they opened his room and found him dead," Yuri Lukin, general manager of Russian champions Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, Lyashenko's former club, told Reuters. "The cause of his death has not yet been established."

Lyashenko and Martin Rucinsky were dealt to the New York Rangers on Feb, 12, 2002, for center Manny Malhotra and winger Barrett Heisten. It was Stars general manager Doug Armstrong's first trade.

Lyashenko played sparingly in Dallas, tallying six goals among 12 points in 1999-2000 and six goals and three assists in 2000-01. He didn't score a point in four games in his final season as a Star. In 21 games as a Ranger, Lyashenko had two goals.
