They, of course, couldn't score anything but field goals, but had they been able to they would have hung 40+ on the Tigers.

You know, I like your logic.

If UNT had been able to, we would have hung 40+ on them too.

Come to think of it, any of LSU's opponents - had they been able to - would have hung 40+ on them.

But LSU didn't score either. You know why they looked timid and afraid? Maybe because they were facing 'bama. And you're automatically assuming OSU wouldn't have shriveled the same way. 'bama fans - along with the national media - have been saying all season that this defense could be the best they ever had. That's saying a lot given 'bama's lore. What kind of lore has OSU established playing ping pong ball in the gimmickie Big XII? The same Big XII that has spent nearly a decade failing to trump the beast that is SEC.

That game was terrific. 'bama's defense was terrific.

If you lose to Iowa State you don't deserve a shot at the national championship. These two teams were clearly above the rest of the competition. There isn't a chance in hell OSU would have scored 30 on Bama.

Clearly above? Bama wasn't a conference or a division champion yet got a shot at the national title. If you throw out that last night was a championship game LSU still has a better record than Bama -- 13-1 compared to 12-1. The BCS formula always puts more emphasis on losses later in the season.

I wonder if people would be fighting to champion LSU if the roles were completely reversed -- LSU was the 12-1 team and completely shut down Bama (13-1) in the final game of the season.

Just my humble opinion, but if we were in a playoff system I think 'bama would be winning it all anyways.

If you (not necessarily YOU, UNTfan) like the idea of a playoff system because "everyone gets a chance", why does it matter whether 'bama won the division or not?

To the first bolded statement: That is just a talking point that also-rans in the Big Ten and Big 12 use to squeeze into the title game only to get jobbed by the SEC five straight times.

To the second bolded statement: Absolutely if LSU has the #1 defense in the country and shuts down the consensus #1 in the title game(who they lost to earlier in the season based on 4 missed field goals). I would be LSU's biggest voice if that were the case

The only saving grace is that Bama won the National Title despite not winning its conference or division. If Bama didn't win the game, lots of people would have been questioning whether they deserved to be in the big game over someone else.
