UTSA Grand Fan Plan

utsa is not about Mean Green Football. :growl:

and neither are the topics of Mike Leach, UTA to the WAC, and NCAA punishment of Ga Tech. Those are posted on the front page of this fourm but no outrage about them posted here. Why the outrage? I cant figure it out. Maybe people should read the article. It main topic is that UTSA isn't going to have as easy a time making it as they hope.

Of course this is GoMeanGreen.com where any post about a FCS college in Texas doing anything is bound to be followed by posting on how said college is "passing us by"

people want to ignore the elephant in the room. with no history their sales numbers dwarf our vaunted salesforce.

The Roadrunners have sold 32 suites 24 more than their initial projections. Season ticket sales have surpassed 7,000, and business is expected to pick up as the season nears. Single-game tickets go on sale July 19.

Hickey said Nelligan Sports, UTSA's marketing partner, has already hit its sponsorship sales marks for the year. Membership in the Roadrunners Athletic Fund has nearly tripled over the past year, from 550 to 1,600.

I think UNT has a little more competition for the sports dollar in D/FW than UTSA does in the Alamo city. Our sales force has their work cut out for them. Not to mention, UTSA hasn't lost a football game yet.

the sports competition is an excuse. dfw has 5 million people vs 1 millin in san antonio. how can we only manage 3000 season tickets?

Another indication of UTSA's learning curve: Heere's study showed that most fans are hugely interested in tailgating, but do not realize they must provide their own provisions.

And I thought SMU was the only team that likes to have their tailgates catered? Another telling sign of UTSA's obstacle seems to be apparent on the t-shirt pictured in the story that bears the caption, "This is football." If they are as bad as some of us think they will be their first few seasons, they might want to add a "?" as the ending punctuation on that shirt.

Students will even be plied with free tacos on the shuttles from campus to entice them downtown on game day.

What an original concept. Is Pancho's going to be their primary sponsor? I'd hate to have tickets anywhere near the student section.
