Who Should Be Starting Qb?

I voted for Baine. He has been at NT since '08 practicing with the QBs. He should have picked something up by now. He has a stronger arm and better build than Riley.

Good thread

I too am a Baine fan at this point. He is healthy...took reps in both Spring an Fall...offers a dual threat and is someone that our opponents have zero film on (outside of high school).

Big Deal. That can happen when you start a freshman in a pass first offense.

That was when he had a "strong" arm. He's nowhere close to even the turnover prone player he was. Did you see ANY of Saturday's game against Army?

What is your point? Riley didn't leave the program? Your comparison doesn't make sense.

I thought you were using those accolades as why he should start and I was pointing out that it doesn't distinguish him from the last freshman starter we had. Didn't Meager even get some honorable mention freshman all american honors? Put Thompson in last year and he has those same honor and possibly even Baine. Point is, Riley was moved to wr because he couldn't throw. Just because our 2 top qbs went down does not mean that Riley all of a sudden got some arm strength. Baine was a baseball player so he should have reliable arm strength to go with his athletic ability and 6ft 210lb frame.

Did you see Chase Baine's arm strength? Riley, even with less arm strength than last year, was this teams 3rd QB over Baine. Riley has experience and that is who I would go with.

Riley has the game experience and understands what is going on on the field. Riley has a big heart and is a competitor. Riley is not the same quarterback he used to be and has not looked good in that position this year so far. He very nearly threw a wounded-duck pick-six at Army but the defender dropped it.

If we plan to run the ball, Riley should be the man. If we want a balanced attack, we have to go with Chase.

JMHO.

I don't think Riley should be put in the position to hurt himself more, save his dad's job and take the brunt of the criticism. It just isn't right. Sure, he is on scholarship, so he should do anything on the field he is asked to do -- but that isn't the question. Long term, Riley isn't the answer. Short term, Riley isn't the clear cut answer either. Therefore, go with one of the freshmen on the bench (DT or CB).

I also voted Riley. I'm hoping that if other teams, knowing of Riley's arm challenges, don't defend the long ball, we work in some half back or end around passes deep with the former QBs we have floating around in different spots on our offense. Maybe that would help keep some defenses honest.
