Mandy Leaving?

I know some on here had problems with her, but Mandy was never anything but nice to me. Must be that cool million I slipped the athletic department.

Always dropped by the tailgate to say hi, answered stupid after hours questions I had about an upcoming game, and even gave me a ride at LSU last year when we were trying to find the UNT Tailgate.

Good luck, Mandy, and enjoy that beautiful SoCal whether.

Intentional typo? If so, genius. If not,........

Getting back on the subject... Mandy McKinley is moving on to greener pastures.

If you haven't said goodbye yet, it's because she hasn't called you, or you haven't called her.

As funny as some of the stuff in this thread was(and great with some seriouis discussion of jackass-ery vs substantial posts) this is the only thing that actually made me laugh out loud.

At least we won't have to endure that commerical anymore.

They have other issues at the moment. A big scandal going on involving the SDSU AD who just recently resigned....

"announced the resignation of Athletic Director Jeff Schemmel saying Schemmel “disappointed the university” with actions that included the “improper use of state funds.” Schemmel traveled to Alabama in January to have a tryst with a woman and didn’t have university business there, the woman testified under oath in a deposition this year."

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2009/no...rector-resigns/

So, did the former SDSU womanizer AD hire her or the new Interim Athletic Director hire her?

Is she - gasp - going to take a similar position at SDSU? If only someone had known that before tonight.

Back to the sudden referendum on me, let me clear my throat for a short sermon to all of my many followers that follow me to the ends of the earth and back to destroy the sanctity of America's favorite sports forum:

STOP FOLLOWING ME. I DON'T LIKE YOU.

It may sound harsh, but if anyone has any ideas that I am trying to raise some kind of popular army of hijackers and habberdashery, you might as well kill yourself now to be spared the disappointment in store. I do love the theory that I alone am the one ruining the content of this Web site. Let's consider this for a moment:

This is a web site with more than a decade of history and hardcore fans. These are GMG experts handing down generations of knowledge. No one knows the program better than you all (save former employees, athletes, coaches, etc.) You are here because you have a passion that a very small percentage of NT alums have ever had. You are supposedly the spirit of this school.

In fact, you thirst for North Texas sports talk. Supposedly, you visit here because this is your outlet in a world where most folks don't care the way you care. And yet, somehow, 1-4 people have this sudden power to destroy and crush everything you might want to say about the team, athletes, recruits, schedules, etc.? How can that be possible?

Well, it's easy. None of you talk about anything unique or interesting to North Texas most of the time, even when you think you do. It's constant debate about the future of conference realignment every season, uniform fashion police or half-baked marketing strategies that are presented as ground-breaking. The goal of the 98% of the posters here is not a genuine sports discussion -- it's self-promotion, chest-thumping about being the best fan, being the world's best news source, brandishing a conversation that YOU had with a key donor, figure or official. The problem is that most of US aren't even good at that, so it just turns into the next best thing -- tearing others down to that level. you may not have it in, but dang it, NorthTexasFan69 is even less in the know. I've never seen a college message board like this. Yes, it happens, but it never like it does here. Everyone is so busy creating rules and levels of fandom that they neglect the basics of conversation.

So, if you post here and are amused by it, it's hard to take it seriously. In fact, some of us take none of it seriously anymore. The admins go to great strides to make this site a worth visiting and have improved it a thousand-fold in the last 10 years, but there is only so much concept they can redesign. They took the time to craft out blog posts and podcasts that were lucky to garner 10 comments regardless of how well done they were. Why is that? Because most of you want to sit around and wiener-whip each other with the same safe and familiar B.S. you've always come here for rather than reward and utilize the free content given to you by Harry and the gang.

So, yes, the hijacks may be tired to you, but the topics being hijacked are tiring to many, too. Still, if I ever hijack something you are seriously interested in, call me out on it and re-steer the topic. I shouldn't be bigger than anyone here. Some of you may love the hierarchy structure, but I'm glad there are people still willing to call me out on stuff. I dish out more than enough to take it back from a few of you. I don't want to hijack good, original content or discussions. It's why I barely grab-ass on the VIP forum and it's why I do nothing but post seriously on other non-GMG sites that are currently floating the interwebs. Serious, well-thought content gets a good response. Your theory on why Riley Dodge does or doesn't have the arm strength to throw a football through a soggy napkin doesn't. I won't make it personal, I won't flame war anyone and I'll stop if asked by a mod.

Is that a little bullying and self-assured? Damn straight it is. If you don't like it, drown me out with something better. Try to figure out what you would want to talk about and start that thread and see what other people think. Contribute something. There are mid-major boards with 600+ people posting each day -- we have the same 15-20 people the majority of the time at this point. I may have angered a couple of folks, but, much like global warming, am I really powerful enough to cause such wide-spread climate shift and destruction? Not likely, but if I am, that's more a referendum on everyone else than me.

I'm off for the holidays, but wanted to make sure I at least added my voice to the debate. If anyone wants to figure out which alum would be a good fit to replace Mandy (haven't we established going outside this group is evil), I'd love to hear suggestions. Any of you in development/fundraising or have strong business connections? This could be the job for you -- apply now (or when it's posted).

This really is an excellent post and could not be more on the money. As for Mandy, good riddance. Personally, I don't think that it is a coincidence she is leaving at a crucial time for fundraising - be that her decision or the schools. Maybe it was best to just part ways for both parties in order for life to be easier. Too many beers at too many games and too many burned bridges with picky donors. Donors have the right to be picky at NT, because they are rare. As for looking for a quality replacement - GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! However, I would think that a guy with no fund raising experience like Harry or Evan (someone that is just a darn nice guy and loves NT) would do rather well in this position. Guys like me would love to help our a guy like Harry or Evan and we would probably give more than we ever would to some stranger. It is just a really difficult position to fill. My company has been looking for a Business Development Specialist Director for about 2 years now. The requirements are simple, someone that knows a lot of top corporate CEO's in the DFW area that can get us in those doors to present our school to their employees. Surely we should be able to find at least one "connected" Dallasite to become a Director at a major corporation (and a 6 figure salary to boot)... nope, still sits unfilled. Just not worth filling it with another warm body when a manager can do the general office duties. The same goes with University fund raising... although I would guess that someone with some energy, maybe a marketing person for the Cowboys or a Season Ticket Manager for the Mavs would be a pretty good fit to fill Mandy's shoes - if they don't mind taking a 50% pay cut.

Agree with CMJ. This was the best post in the entire thread. Gave me a good Christmas Eve giggle.

Exactly! I mean....

Unfortunately, until we start winning, this message board is a house divided...and more unfortunately, divided by people who have nothing new or interesting to say other than to defend their small corner of the entire failed bit that is the current state of UNT football.

I don't have the time or energy to go through 7 pages of BS on this subject, so I will only offer my two cents.

Mandy did a lot for this university. Good or bad, she was there through victories and defeats and deserves the respect and well wishes of everyone associated with the MGC. I think it is a good move for all involved. A step up for her and we will get a chance to start fresh with our new stadium.

But regardless of how Mandy 'wronged' you and your little $250 donation, you should wish her well and be excited for whoever replaces her. She took a lot of crap from people on here but there were also many, and the majority of MGC members who really enjoyed her.

We all have our opinions, but she spent a lot of years here and helped us make improvements, so I think a thank you is in order.

I certainly have no problem at all with your personal thoughts on Mandy's leaving. My concern is with your disdain for those who give $250 (and probably those who give less) to the MGC. Have you ever stopped to think that a $250 donation may be a real stretch for some folks? I do not think anyone should "look down" on those who give any amount of money to the MGC or UNT or UNT athletics, etc. Some are lucky enough to give more than others, good for them, but ALL donations and all donors should be treated well, thanked and respected by all Mean Green fans everywhere. Have you ever stopped to think how much money would flow into the dept. if only 25% of the grads from 2000-2009 would give a "little $250 donation" to the Mean Green Club? Perhaps there are those who felt that Mandy did not respect their effort in making that $250 donation. OK, fine, she did what she felt she should do...right or wrong...but, NO ONE should be dismissed due to the size of their donation. Neither you, nor Mandy, nor me...or anyone, knows the personal circumstances surrounding why folks give the amounts they do to the MGC, etc.

I welcome any and all donations...regardless of size to the program and to the university. One of those "little $250" donations might just grow to $2,500,000, who knows, if they were treated well and with respect when they made the "little $250" donation. It sad that some judge people by the size of their donation.

GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!

Perhaps more importantly though, I've heard from more than a few who wanted to give at the "little" $250 level (with every intention of upping that amount when they could) and felt that Mandy shared your attitude...that the little guys had no say and weren't worth her time.

I feel like an asshole, I apologize. I in no way was bashing against anyone that makes any donation. I am only $500 myself and I do that over a freaking payment plan, so I have no room to talk. What I was meaning to say that in the past on this board, I have seen people complain about Mandy when it comes to the amount of time and attention she gives you as compared to a larger donor. That is my main beef. If you had her job you would do the same. Could she be nicer to a smaller donor? Absolutely. But unfortunately we don't have enough hands on deck in the MGC staff to make every donor feel as special as a 10K donor.

But in no way was I disrespecting any donation. It takes someone who truly cares to donate ANYTHING in these trying economic times. I guess my point is that it is impossible to treat everyone the exact same when you are just one person.

Who do I have to pay off to get access to the VIP forum?

It's not monetary that the mods want ... they want a sacrifice. Depending on the mod, it may be human/animal sacrifice; others might want it to be for a personal sacrifice. Me, I had to cut off my pinkie finger from each hand. They want to make sure they have your unwavering support.

She was completely rude and standoffish to myself and a fellow alum who were students at the time. We went to the Arkansas game in 2007(how many students actually went?) and she pretty much ran us out of the North Texas tailgating area because even though students have season tickets factored into their tuition, we were "not donors, not season ticket holders, you're nothing". I and the other student mentioned, have been season ticket holders since we graduated in Fall '07 and Spring '08 respectively and have had no desire to move to sections D or E specifically because of her. A complete B from the moment I came across this person until I'm sure the minute she leaves campus. I for one can say good riddance and I look forward to an improved MGC with much less Southern Miss cronyism.

Just unbelievable....even for Mandy. If I had been in charge, I not ony would have let you both into the tailgating, I would have personally bought you both a drink. Because any student who is motivated to get themselves to Arkansas for a football game is probably going to be a VERY LOYAL ALUM. Here was an opportunity for the athletic department to make a change (albiet small) in the North Texas culture.....and once again blew it.

When my wife and I took a fall vacation in 04, we ended the trip by going to the New Mexico state game in Las Cruces. We picked up FFR at the El Paso airport and then went to the stadium early to tailgate. We arrived about the same time as Mandy and her crew, and when Mandy walked by our car, FFR rolled down the window and said "hey Mandy, do you need any help setting up the tent?". My wife had never encountered Mandy, and up to this point it was her belief that our view of Mandy's job performance was just typical "good ol' boy" stuff. Mandy glared at Rick and said in her most sarcastic voice "no Rick, I just need a little time to get things set up!" We both turned to my wife who was sitting there stunned and with her mouth open in disbelief. "What a bit.h!" she said, and then added "North Texas hired HER to be in charge of their main fund raising club? She was totally astounded, and finally said "no wonder ya'll have trouble raising money for the athletic department".

Hopefully our AD has learned something from this, AND as you so aptly put it "I look forward to an improved MGC with much less Southern Miss cronyism. And I will be glad to repeat that statement to RV's face.
