Indy Bowl Apparently Not Interested In Sun Belt

Because no one's going to drive/fly to Shreveport, Louisiana to watch Rutgers take on Wyoming.

You might be surprised how far people will go to attend a post season college football game.

Although, I think the CUSA is a shoe-in for this game. And their attendance will dominate over most Big East, ACC, or Mountain West teams.

I think the wac would be a good choice. But the fact that the Indy bowl has 5 sunbelt teams with in an arms throw and they want nothing to do with the belt is bad management. Not to be mean, but once you lose a big 12 team, what does it matter who you bring in to replace? (your all ready hurting)

shreveport is not a vacation city.

You have no idea what they are talking about. Shreveport's hotel tax collections are huge.

And a second CUSA/SBC match up wouldn't draw. The New Orleans Bowl doesn't pull 30k, why would a second or third team from the SBC do better?

Do they (Independence Bowl) really check anything or do they just think out loud?

The Big East has 9 teams (including Notre Dame) and is already obligated to 6 bowls with consideration from 3 others. They already have agreements with Champs Sports, International, Meineke Car Care, Papa Johns, and St. Petersburg. They may also be chosen for the Gator and Sun and may still have the contract with the Texas Bowl. They'll have a tough time filling what they have.

The ACC has 12 teams and 8 obligations. All except the GMAC pay very well so they would probably keep what they have if they can fill the slots. They should meet their obligations this year but couldn't do 9 bowls every year.

The Mountain West has 5 obligations for its 9 teams. In addition, is a likely candidate for the Texas Bowl in most years. Furthermore, with TCU almost a shoo-in for either the Armed Forces or Texas Bowl, the nearest possibility would be Colorado Springs. Air Force would be a great draw since Barksdale AFB is nearby but none of the others would bring much. Not likely.

CUSA would be their best possibility. They have four annual committments, two more bowls that they visit in alternate years and are an alternate for the Eagle Bank Bowl.

The Sun Belt was an alternate conference for the Independence Bowl but I don't believe that we've been called, unless it was last year. We would not be a good choice for another matchup with CUSA because of the New Orleans Bowl. The Indy Bowl would only get our second choice although that is beginning to mean more and more. In addition, they would need the SBC team to be from Arkansas, Louisiana or Texas. If they should happen to get one of the two Floridas it would kill them.

They should cut back their payout and just get the best (and closest) at large teams that they can find IMO.
