DENTON – The UNT men’s basketball team has finalized a home-and-home series with Oregon State starting Nov. 25 in Denton.

The Mean Green will make a return trip to OSU during the 2025-26 season at a date to be determined later.

This upcoming season’s game at the Super Pit will be the first ever meeting between North Texas and the Beavers. The 2025 game in Corvallis, Oregon, will be their first trip to the Beaver State since 2013 when they played in Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in Portland.

In 2021 when North Texas upset Purdue in the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory, Oregon State reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 1982. Oregon State then and still are led by head coach Wayne Tinkle.

UNT is entering its second season under head coach Ross Hodge. The Mean Green won 19 games last season and had victories over LSU, Memphis and SMU. They reached the second round of the National Invitation Tournament and are one of just seven teams in the country who have won a NCAA national postseason tournament game in each of the last four years.

Hodge was named a finalist for the 2024 Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year Award. He was the only rookie, first-year NCAA head coach to lead his team to either the NCAA Tournament, NIT or CBI Tournament.

Yes, that is going to happen.

If your definition of marquee game is with a top 50 type program, NT does not have the resources to accomplish that.  Resources in terms of finances, support or reputation.  

In eras past that infrequently happened, teams would even include away games in their recruiting strategy to establish their presence in certain areas.

Now with nearly every game available online for free, established or ranked teams don't have to promote their programs by oc scheduling.   Plus the awful NIL situation has made recruiting more about purchasing players than recruiting.

      PAC is back

      Sure a school like UNLV is likely desperate. I think the western AAC schools are the next target so they'll likely get a deal similar to what the MWC 4 got. The Pac is also desperate in that they need 2 more to be a conference. Why not take 2 more from the MWC? Because they want 2-4 from the AAC. Just a matter of who from the AAC.

      If I'm the eastern schools you better have a damn good idea of how much you can get in a media deal. The numbers thrown around in some of these tweets/reports are ridiculous. My guess is they try really hard to get money from a streaming service but then nobody sees your games. The MWC adding the two PAC schools didn't bring any value, I don't know why it suddenly has value going the other way.

      Texas State

      What's in a name? In terms of perception, a lot. We screwed the pooch back in 1990 (technically a little earlier) when we renamed our school and thought it was more important to drop state instead of north. TSU obviously didn't have the same nostalgic attachment to southwest. Fast forward 30+ years and TSU can lay claim to the entire state while we are relegated to a region of it. Strategic faux pas by our leadership at the time IMHO.
