FIU... the most confusing naming rights ever

Recommended Posts

So... I actually think that it's really awesome that they got a celebrity to buy the naming rights...

But the Golden Panthers will now play football at... PITBULL Stadium

The stadium was built in 1995 ($3 Million... nuts) and renovated in 2012 ($54 Million), so their stadium costs are low. In 2017 the stadium was named Riccardo Silva stadium, but that name has since gone away... not sure why

Fun fact, FIU used to be known as the Sunblazers... which would be a cool nickname now.

Silva made a sizable donation to FIU to help renovate the stadium and in return was honored with the stadium in his name for 5 years

I think that "Stone Cold" Stadium in Denton has a nice ring to it...

I like it.  Something about "Pat Boone" Stadium just doesn't strike fear in people.

let's feed the rumors and make it even more confusing for everyone

Mean Joe Greene Stadium... then we can say... 'Well, actually, the team was called the Mean Green by some before Mean Joe was here... but actually, Mean Joe bought the naming rights for the stadium... so it actually IS named after him... but not in an honorary measure... he paid for it...'
