If true we need to demand better from the AD. There's no reason for such poor scheduling.

Just curious. Do you think he doesn't try to schedule good teams to play in Denton on purpose or do you think he is incompetent? This subject has come up for several years even when Baker was here.

I'm pretty sure.....the ONLY scheduling that the Ath. Director does.....is football.

In all the other sports........the respective coaches, do it.

Last year, we were the very last team in Div. I to finalize our schedule.

What the Ath. Director could do.....is demand that we make the home OOC games....more of a priority.

But, don't hold your breath on that.

I should clarify that when I said AD I meant Athletic Department. Maybe I'm ignorant here, but is there not a team of administrators that works with the teams to take care of scheduling, contracts, payments, budgets, etc?

Geez. So we're now going to McNeese for a game? And they're very good. But have a hard time believing....we couldn't get them to Denton for a game.

If they are coming to Denton in the future I say that's a good deal, if not that is poor negotiating. Still, out of the types of teams available I'd rather play McNeese than some others out there.

Nice, I call that a good deal.

Here's why us going down there first.....really disappoints me. (as a season ticket holder)

So far our home OOC schedule sucks. Partly because of some of the teams....and partly because of dates for games.

We right now have two decent (not great) home OOC games....Evansville and Oregon State. Evansville is scheduled for November 5. (Election Night). Oregon State is scheduled for Nov. 25 (the Monday of Thanksgiving Week....when students will be gone).

The other two home OOC games (so far) are Dec. 18 and Dec. 22 (Christmas break for students?---I know the 22nd will be). Also...the 22nd is a NFL Sunday. If that game is at night....the Cowboys (who might be way out of it by then) play Tampa Bay on Sunday Night Football. Anyway.....those two games are against Houston Christian and Miss. Valley State.

I relish being there....but I also relish being there with as big a crowd, as possible. So far this home OOC schedule leaves a lot to be desired.

And what I fully expect....when they finish it up...........we will have some games on better dates (when students are around and not on Election Night)......but those games will be against Div. II or NAIA schools.

I hope I'm wrong on this.

But as this schedule now sits.....it stinks.

And for some odd reason....the Evansville game was moved from Nov. 16 (a Saturday) to Election Night. Makes no sense.....from our standpoint. I can see Evansville wanting it then.

I've been hammering scheduling for the last few years, and I'm glad that at least all of my whining has brought attention to the subject. I feel like I was going crazy seeing this glaring flaw while everyone else thought it was no big deal. I'm tired of the "no on wants to play us" excuse. There's a reason we are always so late to finish our schedule, it's poor management.

*edit to add:

Looks like Tulsa finished their schedule a week ago. They also got Oral Roberts and Ok State at home.

So we are officially the last team left without a finished schedule. Saturday we will be 30 days out from the season starting.

We should have definitely pushed to have the home game first, but as long as they make the return next year it's a good team to have on the schedule.

The McNeese State coach is Will Wade. Got fired at LSU for recruiting violations.....when that was still a thing.

He went to McNeese....and a lot of big money LSU fans went with him. McNeese now has lots of NIL money...and that helped them win 30 games last season.

So with Wade's reputation, and them being flush with cash.....I won't be shocked if they buy out the return game.

What a kick in the nuts it would be to have your game bought out by McNeese....

The AD has changed and the head coaches have changed but our schedules remain the same. Who's at fault?

That's the heart of the question, who is actually in charge of scheduling? Is it the coaches or the athletic department?

Coaches for pretty much every sport except football. However, I do NOT know how often road teams get paid by the hosts in nonconference. Would love to get informed on that front.

Then they are doing a poor job and JM needs to come down on them for continually being weeks and sometimes months behind on releasing the schedule. I'm not saying it's easy, but you can't tell me we should be having a harder time to schedule than our conference mates who all get their deals done.
