Recommended Posts

DALLAS (May 3, 2023) – After a stellar first season at UNT with the women’s tennis program, freshman Matilde Morais landed on three different All-Conference USA teams as she earned Second Team All-CUSA honors in both singles and doubles as well as landing on the All-Freshman team.

Morais was honored on the doubles team with sophomore Jasmine Adams who earned All-CUSA honors for the second consecutive season after landing on the All-Freshman team and Second Team Singles a season ago.

The combination of Morais and Adams teamed up to post a team-best 9-5 record while playing exclusively at line one throughout the year. From Jan. 14 to April 19, the duo won 10 consecutive doubles matches including a win over Maryland who was ranked as the No. 53 ranked doubles team in the country.

UNT has now had a duo earn Second Team All-Conference honors in doubles for six straight years dating back to the 2017-18 season.

This also marks three consecutive seasons the Mean Green have landed a player on the All-Freshman team after Adams earned the honor in 2022 and Saki Oyama was named in 2021.

Individually, Morais had a phenomenal year, posting an 11-4 overall record with nine wins at line two and two more at line one. In dual play, Morais won nine consecutive matches to start the season, matching a school record for consecutive wins to open a career.

In the fall, Morais won eight total singles matches and took home the line two singles title at the UIW Fall Classic. For her efforts, Morais was named the C-USA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on Feb. 22 after her wins over USF and DBU.

Since joining C-USA in 2013-14, UNT has placed at least one player on both the singles and doubles all-conference teams in nine of the 10 seasons.

The Mean Green finished the season with 11 victories and advanced to the C-USA Tournament Quarterfinal for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
