Softball @ Mizzou (4/21-23/23)

Recommended Posts

Huge series win against Charlotte this weekend. I am still optimistic we can get this season going when it matters most. While we will have a week break from conference play going to Columbia to play Mizzou, new first-place team FAU (11-4 in CUSA) will have to go to WKU, who swept us. Our second-to-next series in Boca could easily be a battle for second place if WKU takes two of three. FAU has won seven straight, but six of those were against FIU and UTEP, who are a combined 7-23 in conference play. They have only outscored opponents 18-6 in that seven-game stretch.

Meanwhile, Mizzou is 25-19 overall on the season but only 4-13 in SEC play, and 8-6 at home.

We have faced several of the same opponents and fared better against all:
Texas: UNT lost 4-2; Mizzou lost 11-1
Oklahoma State: UNT lost 2-0; Mizzou lost 6-3
Kentucky: UNT lost 4-0 (no-hit); Mizzou swept in three games, combined score of 16-0

Mizzou also played at FIU this season and defeated them 8-0. Unfortunately, we will not play the Panthers in the regular season.

The worst thing about the next six games against Mizzou and FAU is that they are on the road.

Got to be the worst hitting performance I have ever seen from NT softball.

Not that they got not a  hit, they looked like they had never seen a softball before.

Again, there is something rotten in Denmark going on with this team.

It's like they hope to walk and will hit if they have to. To say we are passive at the plate is an understatement. We just made a 9-9 pitcher look like she belonged on the National Team. Sadly, with the preseason hype, this has been one of the school's most underachieving teams in years. Hopefully, we can still do something in the conference, but postseason success seems unlikely.

16 errors by Cierra Simon.....10 more than anyone else on the team. And last year....she was so good at short. She's reminding me of Abou in basketball.

As the SS I would guess that she had at least 10 more errors that anyone else in 2022.  So, the replay in the first game showed that the umps blew the call at first and Simon was given an error.  If they had made the correct call she would only be one error off of last year.  I'm sure that she wanted her fielding avg. to be better than last year, but her fielding ain't the problem.  When the 5-9 hitters that finished the game have a combined BA of .215 you don't need to look any further than that to identify the problem we're having.
