You know what you sorry MF'ers, there is a special place in hell for the likes of GM.  And there is a special place in hell for all you sorry folks that will down vote me on this.  And if you dare to give me a skeptical eagle, a confused face, or even a Ray... THEN I WILL SEE YOU IN HELL... from heaven of course. Because I don't fancy the idea of being in hell. Sounds dreadful.

Sad day for losing a world class coach. But since he really is destined for that special hell place for abandoning us, should we really miss him? 

I am excited and pumped for the upcoming promotion of our heaven-bound Ross Hodge to HC.  He is a saint unlike some former HC's of ours.

I don’t have any issues with Grant.  Tech leaking the story the day of the final, then not giving us even one day to celebrate is just completely sorry.  I used to root for them.  No longer.

Congratulations to Grant. I loved having him here and sincerely appreciate everything he did to build this program -- including bringing home hardware.

I think this situation has been handled as professionally as you could ask for, aside from the media sources that failed to respect the embargoed status of the news. 

I'm also very excited about Hodge becoming HC at UNT and building on this success. I think Hodge has the potential to be the guy who sticks around long-term and turns UNT into a perennial winner, but time will tell.

 

The only thing I'm disappointed by in all of this is that McCasland's buyout only ended up being $750k...that's far too low and doesn't give us much of a boost, especially considering our buyout to Arkansas State for McCasland was $500k.

Let's not forget too, Coach McCasland is the reason we have Coach Hodges now.

He may have left, but he left us in darn good shape with a (seemingly) solid coach and a reputation that is much greater than when he got here.

Best of luck to him in Lubbock... Until we knock them out of the NCAA tournament next year.

They clearly are picking him up from the private terminal at McCarran.  Look at the mountains in the background . It's disappointing he didn't even fly home with the team.

I wish success for him and can't say I wouldn't do the same if offered that money, but TX Tech and Lubbock is an awful place to live and recruit to.

This was about as good of a handoff as can happen. Some of these coaching changes in the past have been disasters.

Congrats coach and thanks for what you've done for the program and the memories...well deserved.  

We'll probably never find out what went into the decision-making process, but it should would be interesting to find out.  There's the money obviously and we've heard about the connection to Tech.  After all that, it's about winning championships and legacy, I guess.  Did he feel he's accomplished all he can at UNT...that the likely-hood of winning an NCAA national championship at Tech is far greater than at UNT?  Was he disappointed in or beaten down by the lack of community and student support?  Or maybe the timing was just right.  He feels he's leaving the program in good hands and wanted to start his own coaching tree.  BTW, how many branches do you need before you have your own tree in the coaching world?

All three of these can be true.

Tech was in the natty 5 years ago and almost won. 

Red Raiders draw well because well what else do you do in Lubbock , and yes, we still struggle with attendance

He's been interviewing for some time - it was always a matter of when. A championship is not a bad way to go out. I'd rather he go out this way than going out losing 25 games.

I'm more pissed at the size of the buyout. That's barely Stormy Daniels money.

I don't think we've ever had an "our coach is leaving" go as well as this one has.

I don't get the sour grapes from some of the people on here. Mac was here for 6 seasons and built a great foundation that we can further build on and left us in great hands in Hodge.

Mark Few didn't inherit a dumpster fire when he took over Gonzaga. TCU was a good program and on the rise before Patterson took over. Boise State had been really good in whatever level of FB they were in before they had those exceptional years when Chris Petersen took it to crazy levels. When you're a school like NT this is expected. That said the more the school and program ascends, the better chance we will have coaches here longer b/c we will have more support, fans and will be able to pay our coaches for them to stick around even longer.

We've far relied on location, school size & media market to think we need to be in a certain place in college athletics and while that's all really nice, what is going to make this thing greater is winning programs and continuously good hires that produce winning teams.
