Regents Chair Karen Gantt said the university and all systems agreed to keep the school's name, mascot and colors intact. She said all applying systems, including UT, agreed. In an interview with KLTV/KTRE, UT System Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife said the SFA brand will be preserved.

The ESPN article mentioned UT Rio Grande will be included but did not mention which sport they would participate in? I also thought that UT Pan American would be the more likely candidate because of their size, established baseball and BB program.  Are they UT Rio Grande planning to start a football team?

Does not really shout a commitment to starting strong

New Braunfels Canyon High School head coach Travis Bush will be named the first head coach in UTRGV program history.

FBS is getting too watered down.  This is the exact reason P5's want to break away from this mess....

"The schools that have signed on to join the league are WAC football members Stephen F. Austin, Abilene Christian, Utah Tech, Southern Utah and Tarleton State and Atlantic Sun football members Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas and North Alabama.  UT Rio Grande Valley, which recently announced it is starting a program, is also expected to join in 2025, in that program's first season, as the league's 10th member."

I do not understand how this can happen.  Of course, back in the day for many of us the NCAA required a stadium of 30,000 and attendance average of 17,000.  The 30,000 seat requirement prevented us from remaining in the top classification because our administration refused to fund the Fouts expansion for roughly twelve years.  Others at that time virtually ignored those requirements; especially those in the MAC.  The NCAA eventually lowered the attendance requirement to a 15,000 average once in two rolling years.  Apparently they ignore stadium requirement altogether.

Of the 9 colleges listed above based on last year's attendance figures, NONE had averages of 15,000.  Only two, Eastern Kentucky and Tarleton State had attendance averages of more than 10,000 and both had averages of 12,000+.  Only three of the stadiums have the capacity for an attendance of 15,000.  Eastern Kentucky has the largest stadium at 20,000.  SFA says that they can accomodate 25,000 by using the hill.

In other words, NONE should qualify for the FBS.
