He coached North Texas to nine wins for the first time in 23 years in 2003, after winning eight contests a year earlier. In the 2003 New Orleans Bowl, Dickey's squad suffered a 27-17 loss to Memphis. The Mean Green also had a 7-5 mark in 2004.

Under his direction, North Texas landed 70 players on All-SBC teams, including 39 first team selections. Dickey was named the head coach of the Sun Belt Conference's 30th Anniversary Team in 2004. Dickey also guided the Mean Green to its first bowl win in 57 years when North Texas defeated Cincinnati in the 2002 New Orleans Bowl.

North Texas produced back-to-back NCAA rushing leaders in Patrick Cobbs (2003) and Jamario Thomas (2004). Cobbs led the nation with 152.7 yards per game in 2003, and Thomas repeated the feat with 180.1 yards per contest in 2004. In his final season at North Texas, Dickey suffered a heart attack on Oct. 13, 2006, but missed just one game. In a nine-month span, Dickey had his gall bladder removed, was diagnosed with diabetes and suffered a heart attack.

Somebody should tell Zach to look up 2005.

Ugh! The first known team in history to lose a game they were favored in by more than fifty points. That was a point spread that many thought would never be beaten, but, Dan McCarney was up to the challenge a decade later.

Are we talking about the Tulsa game?

Let’s scoop him up - he knows the area well. Their issues were not bad play calling per say - they will mature and be a good team soon as they were loaded with freshman and or had lots of injuries.
Let’s let him be the HC and go try to get Graham back for OC 😀

We probably will lose Phil if Seth’s out but there are some great opinions out there!

Wonder if we have been monitoring this as this just didn’t happen this week. 🤔

For what? Run game coordinator?

You jest but I would like to see what he could do here with the resources he didn’t have during his first stint.  I think he has evolved as offensive coach and at this stage of his career I think he would be less inclined to changed the offensive tendencies that work here.   Dickey and Harrell collaborating on an offense might be good.  I also think Dickey would recruit here and he would view it as an opportunity to really solidify a legacy as a really good head coach if he can replicate the success he had in SBC in the new AAC.

Technically he was fired and Jimbo has also been “fired” as the playcaller but whatever. Dickey will land on his feet as hes well respected and a great guy. Hopefully he gets to actually call plays at his next stop and not be a Co-OC

Jumbo had to fire someone other than his self. You have an O.C. and assistant O.C.put together a game plan but you decide when and what play to call.Whats wrong with this picture? Play selection or play execution?
