NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The North Texas men’s basketball team outscored Long Beach State by 20 points in the second half in route to a 68-47 victory in the semifinals of the Baha Mar Nassau Championship Saturday afternoon.

UNT (5-1) will face reigning CBI champion UNC Wilmington (4-3) in the finals on Sunday at 7 p.m. CT from the Baha Mar Convention Center in Nassau, Bahamas. The game will be broadcast on FloSports and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield on the Varsity Network App.

“(Long Beach State’s) pressure got to us early,” said head coach Grant McCasland. “We got a little sideways in the first half. But the advantage really started going our way when Abou (Ousmane) started getting buckets around the rim.”

North Texas trailed by nine points — its greatest deficit — with less than four minutes left in the first half.

From there on out, LBSU scored just 19 points for the remaining of the game and UNT ended the first half on a 10-0 run to take a one-point advantage into the half.

The Beach (3-3) entered Saturday’s game averaging over 73 points per game. The 47 points they were held to by the Mean Green is the fewest points they’ve scored in a game since San Diego State held them to 47 last season in a 72-47 defeat.

North Texas on Saturday was led by newcomer Kai Huntsberry who scored a season-high 22 points and had five assists. Right behind Huntsberry was Abou Ousmane who finished with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Ousmane’s performance comes on the heel of being held to just two points on Friday in the Mean Green’s 69-54 victory over San Jose State in the first round.

North Texas on Sunday will face a UNCW squad who won the 2022 CBI championship last season. UNT won the 2018 CBI title in McCasland’s first season at the helm of the Mean Green.
