ACC would lose schools to SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12 but has contingency plan
If/when FSU leaves, the Seminoles and Clemson would likely be SEC-bound. UNC and UVA, which both have AAU accreditation, would join the Big Ten as basketball and academic fits. The Big 12 would likely try to poach Louisville, NC State, VA Tech, Pitt, and/or GA Tech. There will be a big game of musical chairs played when the ACC crumbles, but unlike the Pac-12, there is a contingency plan to keep the ACC alive: Memphis, Tulane, Wazzu, Oregon State, UConn, and USF making the jump from the Group of Five ranks. Enough ACC schools likely won't get invites to the other conferences since there's only so much revenue split current members will want to take part in, so with the Pac-2 schools and AAC programs making the jump, survival would be more than possible. The American would simply pluck programs from the Sun Belt and Conference USA, and those conferences would fold FCS schools that qualify for FBS membership into their ranks. The proposal in the article is not 1-A and 1-AA again with separate playoffs. The proposed 8 regional G5 conferences and their champions would simply play a Tourney at the end of the regular season to determine the G5 representative into the larger, National CFP. I really don't know how they could do that many games. The G5 playoff would add 3 games beyond the regular 12 game season plus conference championship game = 16. Then the CFP could be another 3-4 games on top of all that =19-20 total games. -

Judge orders Florida State, ACC to mediation to settle suit
Clemson's suit is even flimsier than FSU's. This all about throwing red meat to their fans who desperately want into the SEC/Big 10. Too bad contracts have consequences and both FSU/Clemson signed their rights over to the ACC not once but twice (most recently in 2017). In all likelihood both will eventually work their way into the SEC/Big 10 but it'll be several years and hundreds of millions of dollars later. Nothing happening until 2029-2030 at the earliest.- 2

G5s Finally Getting Together......Talking About Their Future
I think this is inevitable but I would imagine the split is going to come with a ton of caveats. The best case (realistic) scenario for the G5 is to form their own division and play in the spring. Allow players transferring from P4 to G5 division to be granted immediate eligibility. Without having to fight the P4 for eyeballs in the fall the attention would be solely on the G5 division. How many more people will watch a North Texas game in the early April when there is zero competition? I would also be very leery of the private equity angle but its at least worth exploring. I also like the idea of regionalism in this new division. A league consisting of UNT, UTSA, Rice, Tulane, Tulsa, LA Tech, UTEP, Texas State, and Arkansas State would be really fun and create easy/affordable travel. It'll take a few years to work out the details but this is where things are headed.- 1
