And this is why the trigger should have already been pulled on SL. Now we will be competitive in a garbage conference, likely be close to, if not be bowl eligible, and the big name donors will be fooled into thinking SL has it figured out.

And the cycle will continue...

This describes our situation perfectly. We don't have a lot of money, but the BMDs we have carry a ton of sway, including the one who calls SL his "son"...and the administration is basically either held hostage because we can't find donors to replace these people or we just like the fact that there are BMDs out there that are willing to throw cash at something the university doesn't care enough about to disturb the apple cart.

And that cycle has continued for decades.

UNT brings down every conference it’s been affiliated with the last 2 decades and that conference ends up going up in power rankings when it leaves. The AAC is looking at us like a 500lb man about to jump off a diving board……

The AAC has more than football, and NT adds a lot in most other sports.

Second, alignment decisions are based on the potential of the program, not just current results.

Littrell and other coaches will not be at NT forever, and NT has shown that they are more than willing to invest in athletics.

Location, investment, history, and yes athletic politics are all more important decision elements than the merit of any individual sport performance.

I wouldn't say NT bright down the SBC, they just made smart decisions after we left.  NT isn't the only school that joined CUSA, so you can't say we brought the conference down.  Then there's Judy. She's the biggest reason CUSA is sinking like the Titanic.

Football definitely brings in the money, but I would love more insight about how conferences view the other sports.  I have to believe they have some value.

Only men's basketball is seen as the other money sport IIRC. The credits from the NCAA tournament can be a nice bump if you have multiple teams make it, or if teams make a deep run.
