PAC-12 HIT WITH MORE BAD NEWS AS THE CONFERENCE FIGHTS TO SURVIVE

The PAC-12 is reportedly not anywhere near reaching a new media deal with ESPN.

The west coast conference is in the process of attempting to hammer out a new media deal in order to secure a future.

However, with USC and UCLA leaving for the Big Ten, multiple other teams possibly going to the B1G and the Big 12 howling at the gates, the PAC-12 doesn’t have much leverage and ESPN knows it.

John Ourand reported that the two sides are “hundreds of millions” apart when it comes down to a new package.

I'm not sure that really means much. Hundreds of millions across 10 teams and 5 years could only be $5-$10MM/YR. No big deal

From a different article, the amount per school would be dropping nearly $9MM/yr. from what it currently is.  Additionally, if the Big12 scores more on their media estimates in the near future, it could be used as bait to lure some PAC12 schools to the Big12...

"This certainly coincides with what was being reported by 247Sports' Jason Scheer, back in July, when he reported the amount of money offered by ESPN per school was $24.5 million. A mark that the Pac-12 needs to be much higher as according to \Front Office Sports, they are hoping for a deal that would allow it to increase its per-school payout, which was nearly $33 million in 2020."

Amazingly, I now believe the Big 12 will be the league to survive and the PAC will dissolve. The Big 12 will probably get the SW 4 (UA, ASU, Utah, and CU), which combines with the recent 4 they got in BYU, UH, Cincy, and UCF, they will have a nice conference. It will clearly be third still, behind the B1G and the SEC, but it’s gonna have some solid teams and be an incredible basketball league still.  I’m happy for them. Somehow, Tech, TCU, Baylor, OSU, KSU, KU, ISU, and WVU are gonna survive in the conference that we all thought was on life support.

The PAC made the mistake of not killing the Big12 when they had the chance.
