•••(albeit a dated article—still relevant on the eve of a September 3’rd matchup at fabulous Apogee Stadium with a 6:30 pm kickoff).

Weather?  In the 70’s on a Saturday evening in early September.  No excuses now!

Unlikely we play a single name as conference mates

Maybe you know something we don’t. But this quote from the article this thread is about indicates otherwise.

They’re about to get much better acquainted with one another, so let’s drop the pretense. Sure, the Iron Skillet will always come first, but TCU is peering down at the Mustangs from the Big 12, and if Bowlsby’s comments to Swanger are any indication, SMU isn’t getting an invitation to join them any time soon.”

The Big12 is far more focused on picking up Pac12 teams than picking up anymore AAC teams.  Unless SMU has an inside line to move themselves to ACC only to get smoked week after week by mid-tier P5 teams and Clemson, there's little chance of them getting a P5 invite.

No way we go to Big12 unless it gets majorly raided, which seems unlikely because payouts for B12 P12 and ACC should all be generally similar. We add nothing with TCU there.

Similarly you add nothing to AAC with us there,.so clearly the conference thinks we are likely gone.

PAC12 has to survive, because there are too many late timeslots for ESPN and Fox and not enough decent teams in the west.  PAC12 will add 2-6 teams and SMU will be one, or less likely (due to buyout and similar pay) some B12 teams will go west and we backfill.

Pipe dream that many SMU fans are pushing is that ACC gets skiddish over so few decent options remaining and grab a few now anticipating future losses and take us, or B12 making spot for us.

Y’all are going nowhere, unless it’s the MWC

Doubt anyone cares about SMU. You are going to be playing us as a conference mate, deal with it. What do they put in that cocaine on Mockingbird?

Despite all your money and effort, you’re on the same playing field as ol NTSU. Get f’ed

Y'all aren't nearly the biggest problem. Look at some of the other future AAC team scores today. Ugh.

Probably the main difference tonight was 17 P5 transfers going to SMU.  All power to them— it’s all legal now. It’s a regular heaven-sent nirvana for Pony’ville.
Imagine?  You can have a complete new football team from one school year to the next.  Money & outstanding black football players to their historical lilly white campus is what SMU does best.  They have thatc formula down pat.
Also, might SMU send another secret recruiter to the Mean Green Village & start smuuuzin’ Oscar Adaway away from our team? Oh no!😱SMU wouldn’t do something like that, right?
Well, as I was looking across the field tonight I could sense that  powers of covetousness hovering over the SMU bench as Adaway was running thru the Mustangs defense like melted butter thru a Cracker Barrell biscuit. Sorta reminded me of a similar night over at GFord when UNT’s Siggers was doing the same.
I am simply not liking what the government & NCAA are doing to what used to be a purely amateur game for most schools.
