UTEP fans feeling confident about UNT game

Based on UTEP having a solid rb group, experienced OL, experienced qb, some good if not great wr's and UNT's defense is rebuilding a bit.

But the big reason for a 3 score win is the defense. Hurrying their qb, slowing their run game and creating some turnovers. The big crowd will help by creating an electric atmosphere.

Finally the Miners win an important game and create a buzz in El Paso.

I think it’s a very close game with UNT on top or it’s lopsided with UNT on top. We have better overall skill people than the Miners plus—Adaway is back & he’s healthy & he’s mean. (The Miners didn’t face him last year).

Game Notes: UNT grad Dr. Phil McGraw had a closed meeting with the team yesterday in our world class Indoor Practice Facility. Word is he put them under hypnosis & proceeded to tell the team in green in an almost catatonic trance:😳 “When—the—Miner—fans—get—loud & rowdy—just—act— like—they’re—yelling—for—you.” (A Dad “almost” joke #333).

Actually, after reading several of the posts there, I'm surprised they aren't more optimistic.  We historically have trouble playing on a big stage, on the road, and in El Paso.  It was amazing we were able to scrape by against them at home last year.  Yet several Miners over there are predicting a UNT win.

They’re not optimistic because they lost 5 of their last 6 games. All their wins last year were against AWFUL competition. Only respectable win was vs ODU.

Fair enough, but our performance wasn't substantially better.  And they finished with a much better bowl game performance than we did.

They are predicting it because UTEP loses a lot. It’s not big stage. We go up the Sun Bowl will be empty fast. I had season tickets there growing up. The fans will abandon them quickly. If we jump out on top early there will be a sigh and collective eye roll of here we go again. And back to the tailgate or bar. They will be rowdy if we give them a reason to cheer but they are use to bad football.

This is hilarious.   We just happened to have our easier opponents at the end of our schedule.

I gave a reason why UTEP fans might not feel optimistic about the matchup. They're coming off imploding down the stretch last year. Plus, they lost to us and we beat UTSA while UTEP got their ass kicked.
