Clemson Tigers coach Dabo Swinney says there needs to be 'complete blowup' of college football

What is going to happen within 10 years is that there will be a Big Ten/SEC expansion and then creation of their new level of play. They'll get some combo of Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC, Louisville, Pitt, Duke, UVa, Va Tech, Ga Tech, ND, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and Kansas. That's 20 teams with big markets, AAU research institutions, and revenue sports success. With the 30 teams currently or headed into the SEC/B1G, that should give you the 50 teams that have budgets, fanbases, TV markets, and academic standards to make that your new bigger college athletics players. They'll have their own football playoff, their own Basketball Tournaments (which will include the Big East schools), College World Series, and other national playoffs for the non-revenue sports.

That would leave schools like Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Kansas State, Iowa State, West Virginia, Cincinatti, Houston, UCF, Wake Forest, Boston College, NC State, Washington State, Oregon State, Cal, and Arizona State to be in a setup with us and the rest of the AAC/MWC/SBCUSA/MAC. Imagine for a second, playing in a conference setup with UNT, TCU, SMU, UH, Texas Tech, Rice, UTSA, UTEP, Texas State, Tulane, Tulsa, and Louisiana...that would be a dream come true for North Texas.

Alabama's Nick Saban: CFB Is Not 'Sustainable' with Transfer Portal, NIL Contracts

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10032591-alabamas-nick-saban-cfb-is-not-sustainable-with-transfer-portal-nil-contracts?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial

"But that creates a situation where you can basically buy players. You can do it in recruiting. I mean, if that’s what we want college football to be, I don’t know. And you can also get players to get in the transfer portal to see if they can get more someplace else than they can get at your place."

Why would that be better?  We’re currently grouped with ALL of the above schools.  Taking out the top 30-40% revenue schools separates us from those schools in all sports, not just football.  We’ve already demonstrated that we can compete in several sports.  It’s really only the football power structure that keeps championships there out of the reach of the majority of schools competing in FBS.

C'mon Nick.

Alabama has such blatant disregard for violations that you can’t help but respect it. They’re hiding right in plain sight, screaming “suck it” to the rest of the country, and daring the NCAA to do something about it.

We aren't grouped with them where it counts--money. The P5 get the money--the P4 or P2 will eventually get even more money. We won't--we never have and we never will. That's due to a lot of factors, but it doesn't change the fact that we are a have not.

Dabo is right. Middle Tennessee is different from Tennessee. South Albama is different than Alabama. And yes, UNT is all kinds of different than UT. Let those schools go. They don't want us--they use us for money and glorified practices. They will easily drop all of us ASAP. Anyone with these grand allusions that we are equal to them in the eyes of the NCAA, the networks, media, fans, or players and coaches is naive at best. Hell, look at Texas Tech. They make a lot of money. They have played in a conference with Texas for about 60+ years. They aren't even anywhere near UT in revenue, fans, or media coverage. And they are probably being left behind to be with the UH's and Baylor's of the world. If they can't stay in the top of the NCAA Football world, what chance do we have of ever getting included? Think back to 1978--because we weren't even allowed in it back then, much less now, where we see SMU, TCU, Baylor, Rice, Uh, Tech, and others in the Big XII currently basically looking down the barrel of a gun to being relegated. Thats ok to recognize...nobody is being a bad fan by saying this out loud. Reality is reality.

Hey man I truly agree with you 98% of the time.  Did you used to be involved in athletics or the sports media business?  Very insightful.
