As I have stated before if Mc is in the running for a job and he wants it, he gets it! His personal traits and magnetism is just outstanding. Do you make $2m and live on Druid  on a 50ft lot in the Park Cities or make $1.5 and live in Aubrey on a few acres and have your kids go to private school? Money is important but more does not equate to better. If Mc does not go to SMU, it is because he said no in one form or another.

Exactly. As somebody who grew up in Dallas, cost of living in Dallas is a huge deterrent to me. I always tell people, Dallas also has a private school tax if you want your kids to get a good education because you're not going to want your kids in public school save for a few select elementary schools.

Yeah Argyle ISD and DISD is not the same. If he wants the same level of education in Dallas, he'll be paying $30k+ per year per child.

Only an idiot would spend 30k a year for a kid's elementary education, but we're way off topic now. Nevermind that once you're in junior high and high school DISD has some of the best magnet schools in the country...

Why "F SMU"?

Because it is smu.
Money isn’t everything. He will get a nice raise and extension from North Texas, have a better quality of life, easy commute, doesn’t uproot his kids from a very good school district and can keep his green van.
Also, because it is smu and they think they can money whip anyone. Ask Jank how he liked it there outside of the cash?  Sometimes that environment isn’t for everyone. As my mother used to say, “Money can buy a lot of things. Happiness isn’t one of them.”  She was right.

Regarding private school education, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. I low balled prices but you clearly don't know what people pay in Dallas for private schools.

Regarding the junior high and HS, magnet schools are not for everybody and are not the experience everybody wants. He has his kids in public school. If he wanted that specialized or unique type of schooling, he could be paying for private school where he is.

But yeah, off-topic. He's not going to SMU to spend all of his income living next to the Jones' for the next 5ish years.

why would he settle for  soon-to-be conference mates.

At the risk of being tarred and feathered here, SMU is a very unique and special place.  We offer a vibrant city, huge employment opportunities after graduation and unlimited resources.  Our alumni network strong and our academic reputation is second only to Texas A&M or UT in the state.  We may be in the same conference but there are clear differences between the two of us.

UNT: more unique than smu

UNT: more special than smu

Denton: true college town that is “vibrant” and close enough to Dallas to take advantage of what that town has to offer without living there.

UNT: with our huge alumni base also offers great employment opportunities.
Depending on your field of study, UNT ranks extremely high in academics and offers many more majors of study than smu.
By the way, smu isn’t close to Rice and is far from #3 in the state. Once you get outside your smu bubble you realize that smu is not thought of that highly pretty quickly.

SMU has a better academic rep that A&M unless you're talking about engineering. Even then, I know quite a few people that pay extra for their kids to attend SMU for engineering and got $ to attend A&M.

UNT has a shot at being higher ranked than Tech in the US News rankings.
