DRC: SMU opening could put UNT in a battle to hang on to McCasland

@Brett VitoNice article with one exception. Why sugar-coat NIL?  Call it what it is - SMU can offer more Pay-to-play opportunities. NIL in it's naivety and reality are totally different. Would be nice if at least the press actually called it what it is.

If this happens we’re either lower on the totem pole than I thought or SMU is much higher than I thought.

We still are very behind in alumni engagement and $upport compared to our peers, and right now we just don't have the $$$ to swing with a lot of schools.

That's it.  It's a money thing.  Take it FWIW, because we just got invited into the same conference as these guys and a big Mean Green selling point was how much we are already invested into making this thing right.

We have a growing enrollment and our student fees that we can generate based on that is important.  I don’t dispute what you say but we have come a long way in a short time.  Many, many schools would love to have 42k students and projections to go >40k in 7-8 years.

Long way to go. Have you seen our endowment? Anyways, you’re right: our potential is huge. Just need to figure it out.

I was at a fundraiser for my kids private school the other night and they had an interesting donation item:

Fly Your College Flag at the school for a year. The choices given in the silent auction to bid on were:

UT, A&M, Tech, Baylor, TCU, OU. OSU, and SMU.

Why no UNT? Because nobody ever approached them with wanting our flag shown. And because the others all have alumni who want their flag shown and will bid money to have it shown there all year. The top bid from an Aggie was over $3700. Baylor had $3000. And there was one SMU guy there who bid $2000.

it is what it is. We have graduated thousands upon thousands of people who used their degrees to get jobs…and haven’t given one cent or one second of time back to UNT in any manner, much less support anything athletic. I mean, hell, the administration hated athletics for the better part of our history. Today, that lack of support rears its ugly head at times like these. Can’t beat SMU out if they want our coach. Can’t buyout an extra year of the football coach even though he appears to be in way over his head now. As I said, it is what it is.

And what was your bid to fly the UNT battle flag?

Am I to understand that you are now taking the conservative culture wars to UNT athletics?

There is only one way the conservative way.  Screw diversity, lock step my way or the highway.

In your sad little world we’re things are changing and not to your liking you blame liberals. Look in the mirror.

When this is the type of discussion on a college basketball fan forum things have gotten real sad.

Then for some reason I am not allowed to leave my usual up or down vote on this topic. Surely this has to be some sick joke.

If it is not a joke you can run it right up your snot filled nose!!!!!

This was meant as a response to Plummeangreen's tirade on the culture wars and has since been removed.  I stand by my comments.
