Game Thoughts

1) The crowd was a lot better than I expected to see.  And the building actually got LOUD at the needed times when we had to have a run.  I can only assume (hope) it will be even better Saturday/Sunday. 
 

2) Whether it is Virginia or Miss State next, they will stick a long defender on Perry and dare us to do anything other than stand around watching him dribble before throwing up a prayer.  
 

3) Ousmane HAS TO put in some work or we don’t stand a chance.  We won’t beat either team by just passing it around the perimeter.  
 

4) Regardless of outcome this weekend, this team deserves to punch me and a lot of you in the nuts for writing them off in this game.  Shame on us.  This team knows no quit.  
 

5) When Perry stepped to the line after being fouled on that late three (when we were down 2), I looked at our free throw stats.  At that point we had shot 0% (0-6) from the stripe.  From that moment on we shot 83% (10-12).

Good thoughts @emmitt01.  We agree.  It was a really fun night.  Great energy!

I want to unpack more of this, but initial thought on Ousmane is that he is either dominant or invisible.  We need him to be a consistent threat under the basket.  For points AND rebounds.

I would like to see more going to the hoop instead of looking for an outlet pass. Can anybody defend Bell on a drive to the hoop? Would like to see more. GMG

From someone with a basketball IQ of about 10:

 

1) You HAVE to drive to the net more.  If you live by the 3, you will eventually die by the 3.

2) Crowd was good

3) Our band was the second best band

4) We don't need "Out of town" scores or updates on where "xyz" team is traveling to next week

5) Our in game program is still sorely lacking.

6) We can not let bad officiating get in our heads, nor can we count on getting a late call.

7) Great effort and never give up attitude by the team.

I'm relatively ignernt when it comes to basketball, but man, couldn't agree more with this.  They've got to get at least some points in the paint, or be a threat there.  Some credit to Texas State's defense too, though.  They were pretty good.

Ousmane has a great finesse game down low, but he needs to be more aggressive.  It changes his game.

Painful to watch Ousmane miss so much around the basket. He needs to take his time and go up strong. Looks like he freaks out a bit at times and goes up hastily.

Maybe our band had missing players due to spring break. But I told the guy next to me we were getting out played. Usually not a big deal but we are a top music school so the expectations are there. They played Louie Louie and some zeppelin which I thought was cool for my age and era

Our paint game frustrates me so much. Thomas and Abou often get position down low, but when they go up they freak out. Kinda like in a video game when you accidentally let go of the shoot button too early and you chunk a brick.

Meanwhile our guards never go up in the paint. Maybe they're afraid of getting fouled and having to shoot free throws.
