Underperforming sports

Why does NT do so poorly in track and field?

It is a partial ship sport that you would think big city schools like NT should dominate being closer and therefore cheaper for a lot athletes.

Also, although it might be a facility problem; women swimming and diving is dismal.   Official site headlines celebrating two bronze CUSA medals.

I believe part of the issue is that very few care or even follow these sports.  Swimming adds females to satisfy Title 9 concerns.  Coaches of both sports have long time history with NT, but it mostly of losing.

Track has been good at NT in the past and swimming was a developing sport until the coach left for a better job and NT promoted his assistant.

NT recently apparently terminated their volleyball coach, who had arguably a better record than these two coaches.

My guess is that aquatics doesn't have the young talent base in the area that other women's sports do (Basketball, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball).  Our Tennis team is almost all foreign students.

Obviously, the few care comment is true, as no one apparently cares enough to discuss track or swimming.

Maybe Baker cares enough to make some moves that might put some life into these programs.
