It’s really quite ridiculous that UNT AD can sell that we can’t afford baseball but nUTSACk with their paupers budget can.  What’s worse is some on here have bought that story hook, line and slinker.

It's not about being able to afford it. It's about where you allocate your resources, and what you give priority to.

Absolutely!  It's time to allocate some resource for a program that has the potential to be nationally relevant.

Agreed! Which is why it should go to Basketball 😉

I am 100 percent in agreement that we need a new basketball practice facility.  We can build that and add baseball at the same time.  Building a new arena, however, would be a waste of money.

Our AD has not once said we can’t afford baseball. We can afford it but are choosing to concentrate on making sure the current sports we have are performing at a high level and competitive for championships and that they have the resources needed to do so. The money for baseball is better allocated through other sports programs currently. Having talked to him personally, he does envision a time where NT will have baseball and he knows the fan base wants it, but it’s not a main priority at the moment.

Baseball has been "envisioned" for thirty years.  It's time for the baseball fan base that has been patient to rise up and demand baseball be added before the proposed arena sucks all the money out of that possibility.

At the end of the day, my guess is the baseball fan base you refer to hasn't offered to write big enough checks yet. If enough people stepped forward willing to write checks for baseball vs. any other sport, my guess is we would add baseball.

I know for a fact that the athletic department has been approached by baseball donors.

What would you consider the cost prospects to build a baseball program?  80 million or less?

This actually further makes my point. There just aren’t enough donors willing to commit enough dollars to support baseball even though the commitment would be significantly lower than a new basketball/volleyball arena.

How exactly do you know this?

Obviously, like any opinion on a message board, it’s my opinion based on the fact that baseball hasn’t been added. If there was a commitment from donors that would support the building of a baseball stadium and support the ongoing costs, why would the school not have moved on it? I can’t imagine they’re sitting there thinking, “I know we have this huge commitment. Let’s just not do this.”

There was a very public commitment by the Lovelace family to be the lead donor in starting the baseball program.  When Wren came in, he convinced them to move their commitment to the indoor practice facility.
