I’m taking my 8th grader to the game on Saturday.  He just started taking basketball seriously and is playing competitively. Winter/Spring Rec Leagues. 
 

Question:  What specifically can I point out to him that the team does well…or even certain players?  And how would I put it into 8th grade basketball terms?  Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have him watch how NT gets after them defensively on the perimeter.  JJ Murray in particular.  You don’t even have to say a lot… just watch & compare to USMs energy when defending us.

Offensively, watch the ball movement before we eventually take a shot.  There isn’t any urgency to score, so plenty of opportunities to watch that machine churn… eventually, they’ll lock in on a matchup they like because the opposing defense couldn’t get to the right spot in time.   And if they actually do defend well, watch Perry do something magical, or McBride hit a loooong 3!

Have him watch Aaron Scott (Freshman) when he comes in off the bench and how he moves around the court when he doesn't have the ball.  He is always hustling to his next coached spot and is always anticipating the next move.  Also how he crashes the basket for a rebound along with Thomas Bell III.

I think Scott is going to be really special in the next few years.

      Lesser Reasons for Transferring

      It looks like unlimited transfers are going to be approved across all sports with no sitting out. The only condition will be that you cannot transfer mid-year in a sport and play for two schools in the same academic year. Supposedly, this will be tied to maintaining educational levels that are supposed to ensure the student is on the way to completing school. Total Bull Shit! Not one person, including presidents of universities, gives a crap whether or not these kids are graduating from school. We all bitch about the NCAA, but remember, the NCAA is controlled by the college presidents. I cannot wait till some of these kids who transfer 4 times in a five-year career start suing because they never got a degree. TWO TERMS THAT SHOULD NEVER BE USED AGAIN Student-athlete "For the good of the game"

      The Athletic on DFW Football recruiting

      We can b!tch and moan all we want...but schools have 3 choices: 1. Change it 2. Complain about it 3. Adapt to it Won't be long (if they're not doing it already) before coaches start telling kids "You didn't get that P5 offer you wanted, come here and we'll develop you and then help you get there." Coaches used to say that to kids wanting to go pro. Now instead of: "I'll help you get to the NFL" it may be: "I'll help you get to Alabama." They're being forced to start thinking about players as 2 year players instead of 4 year players. So that coach is technically correct...G5s are now on a juco time table: 2 year plan vs 4 year plan.
