Recruit Names to Watch as NSD approaches UPDATED 12/13

I will trust the guys recruiting know more than most of us, but if what we are seeing as far as transfers is the best we are going to do then it looks like getting invited to the AAC has had absolutely no bump. I know we have found success with the running game, but is it keeping transfers away? Hopefully there is stealth recruiting going on and we are all going to be surprised.

Learning on the job? The guy is a former college QB. And almost a decade of txhsfb coaching experience. I think he is more than qualified. If those don’t meet your standards than over half the coaching staff is not fit to be coaching. UnT problems at qb started before the hiring of the current qb coach. Now if they struck out in recruiting and ruder does not progress next year then I can completely understand placing the blame on him

JD. . . I appreciate listing his qualifications but with all do respect— being qualified and actually doing a job well are two different things. I only interview highly qualified candidates for positions but just because someone has ticked off all the boxes along the way doesn’t mean they can or will preform well. For example, Passwaters didn’t tick all of the boxes to even be seen as an up and coming D-Line coach but has panned out well. I would argue the Blake Joseph hasn’t preformed well (though ticking the boxes) at least in the on field development of Qb’s, as fans would like. At the college level it was always said that as long as you didn’t coach’em down you would be able to keep a job. The problem I think is that on the field performance of Aune was down compared to last year.  Alas, I’m not the one to set the expectation (Littrell is) and determine if they are met. All areas of his and others’ jobs should be evaluated in balance with the expectations of the program. In other words, they may be qualified to coach somewhere but maybe not here based on performance expectations.

It just seems like our recruiting is ho hum these days

Competition is super stiff.

Dykes and Samples are incredible recruiters

Traylor is an incredible recruiter that knows every HS coach in the state

McGuire is the same at Tech

Jury's still out on Lashlee but SMU has been taking kids from us forever

All the schools we compete against for fringe P5 players/solid 3 stars have arguably better recruiting staffs than we do, even with Walerius and Morris, and that's just in Texas

Plus factor in we have a lame duck coach on the last year of his contract that has yet to win a bowl game or conference championship.

We have a lot going against us right now

He has 2 yrs left on his contract. It has not hurt us the last 2 recruiting cycles. I expect another top rated class with more transfers. We will have to keep schollys open for transfers. GMG

Alright a .500 career coach that has yet to win a bowl or conference championship and has questionable hires across the board that may be hindering the development of current/future players.

How's that

Last year may have been the best class in our history. I’m sure you were making the same comments back then. We will see.

Looking at our roster, we only lose a handful of players to graduation this year.  I would expect the normal attrition, but this should be a smaller than normal class as roughly 80% of our roster are currently classified as underclassmen.

And many in the UNT youth movement have started & gotten some valuable playing time.
This “near Christmas Day” bowl game will give them more valuable pre-Spring Football practice.
A bowl win coupled with 2 or 3 major P5 portal transfers will rock the world of the Mean Green Nation.
All this happening on the eve of joining the American Athletic Conference could not have been better timed.
Heck!  We just dismembered the #15 ranked team in America 2 weeks ago.  The final score didn’t even indicate that it was not that close of a game.

GMG!

Everyone looking for the next Zappe or Mordecai from the portal...     Leaving some really nice JUCO players twiddling their thumbs...

Hope the coaches hit the JUCOs hard!

Take, for instance, General Booty (Excellent bloodlines & nephew of EDIT: former NT coach John David Booty):
