FORT WORTH, Texas

Sonny Dykes landed as TCU's coach Monday night, arriving at the purple-lit stadium in a luxury helicopter that settled down near midfield.

A one of a kind red velvet carpet was rolled out and a slightly chilled flute of 2011 Armand de Brigna champagne found it’s way between his upturned index and middle fingers as he waved to the crowd of city leaders, athletic department staff and donors who had anxiously been awaiting his arrival.

After weeks of speculation, TCU announced his hiring when welcoming Dykes back to the Fort Worth campus to meet with his new team.

Dykes spent the past four seasons at SMU before his return to the other side of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The son of former Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes had been considered a top candidate for the Frogs job since Gary Patterson and TCU mutually agreed Oct. 31 to part ways with four games left in the season.

TCU is worse than SMU if they think the 8 million plus populated North Texas Metroplex is not paying one plug nickels worth of attention to them.

Yet UNT has such a huge reservoir of a fan base in which to draw from.  Winning early games in any football season helps immensely in that department.

A 1 & 6 beginning this season taught us a lesson we don’t ever need to repeat like—ever.
