Good stuff from Hank Dickenson & George Dunham who were the Mean Green Radio Network broadcast team in the 2000’s.

In this video they share game notes of the 2002 season, the bad call vs the Arizona Wildcats which cost UNT another win over a PAC 12 school.

Then Hank & George share their special memories of the 2002 Wyndham New Orleans Bowl & the huge Mean Green win over the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Truly a great night in the New Orleans  SuperDome for Coach Dickey, the UNT football team & the entire Mean Green Nation.  Enjoy...

Thanks for sharing this, Plumm. This brought back some great memories of that night in the Big Easy. I remember standing there in the Superdome and just feeling like I was witnessing a miracle. But we deserved that win that night and totally outplayed the Bearcats.

You are so welcome, untjim1995!

Were not the UCincinnati Bearcats the CUSA co-champions with TCU that season?
Nevertheless, a superb win for the Mean Green.

HOW ‘BOUT THOSE 2021 MEAN GREEN?!?!🤠

* Bumped for “non-affiliated to UNT” visitors who seem to think we’ve had no real highlights with our Mean Green football program.  So off that is.
AND......How bout’ the night on MNF when Dandy Don Meredith said in reference to the Mean Joe Greene era at UNT how he was glad SMU didn’t have us on the Mustang’s schedule with those teams.
Why would Dandy Don say that?
Maybe because that UNT team had 3 NFL #1 draft choices on it with another 12(?) who would be drafted?

Kevin Galbreath.  He seems to get lost in the list of our great running backs, but he was really good and deserves recognition.  Was only here two years, as he was a JUCO transfer from NEO, but surpassed 1,000 yards both seasons.  He ended up in our HOF, but when talking about our greats, he seems to get overlooked.

Yeah but he’s a Juco and they typically aren’t considered like a 4-5 year player would be.

He's in the North Texas Hall of Fame.  Somebody considered him and deservedly so.

I enrolled at UNT in 2001. He was the one that started it all for me. He, then Cobbs, Thomas, etc. The original!

•••Mean Green running backs Kevin Galbreath & Patrick Cobbs shine bright with both scoring TD’s.
•••MGRN’s Color Commentator Hank Dickinson said “probably 15-16,000 Mean Green fans in the SuperDome.” (FWIW—it was also a week night game which I thought impressive considering that UNT still traveled as many fans).

•••.This is the 3’rd video highlights featured on this thread of the 2002 New Orleans Bowl & UNT’s big win over the CUSA Co-Champion (to TCU), ie, the University of Cincinnati Bearcats (& with much better sound).

••• Also featured are video vignettes of UNT officials, UNT alums, Mean Green fans & many of you who are regular posters on this forum—GMG.com.
GMG!

💚Sighted on this video were several many of us knew from the Mean Green Nation who are no longer with us.  Among them are:
• #12 Starting MG QB Andrew Smith
• Dr & Mrs. Norval Pohl
• Denton barber icon Popo (with the green beard)

Bump...

Below is Mean Joe Greene with North Texas defensive coach Herb Ferrell, circa 1968.
I took a Golf course as an elective under Coach Ferrell.  He was a super nice guy & I’m still a lousy golfer.

He was a neighbor of mine growing up. Super nice man.
