I heard SL was giving them a couple days off before they start practicing again.

This may seem like he's just being a nice guy coach, but it's really because he'd rather his guys have their break now instead of in-between his 2 weeks of allowed practices & the bowl game.   All teams are off right now, with the exception of maybe those 2 teams going to the Bahamas Bowl with their extra loopholes for travel and whatnot.

I think you get 10 or 12 days of extra practice no matter which bowl game you go to, right?   And considering the first bowl game is 12/17, I think there's still the remainder of this week (at least) before practice time would start.

No the rule you are thinking about is the spring practices rule. That does set a hard cap on the number of days.

There is no cap on the number of practices when prepping for bowl games, you just have to follow the normal hours per week rule.

"(It's) a common misconception that's been around for years," NCAA spokesman Christopher Radford said. "There is no specific limit on the number of practices a team may hold while preparing for a bowl game, but standard NCAA rules apply for participation in practice or other athletically related activities. Same as the regular season, these rules limit practice and other athletic activities to a maximum of four hours per day and 20 hours per week."
