I agree with the sentiment of just letting Sonny walk now. There are no goal left for this SMU team other than winning this weekend and winning the bowl game. And nothing changes for them if they lose tomorrow. Let the new guy get a head start and see the current assistants in action. That is best retention interview they could have.
I won't live to see it, but in a few years all athletes will be paid employees of the university they play for with a salary and benefits just like everyone else who works there. Who knows. Maybe the cheer team, dance team,band, mascot , and anyone else associated with athletics may get a paycheck as well. This is when the rubber is really going to hit the road when it comes to defining who can afford to pay and play, and who is going to fold .
Never invest in a dead technology. Its just money into the drain with no ROI.
Newspapers are dead. Radio is dying. Its just not good financial sense to make any material investment when better alternative exist.
Not trying to knock anyone's tried and true methods, but time to catch up with the modern reality.
