Second most improved defense

The recent games against bad offenses has certainly helped to bring down that average but even in the early beatings we took you could see the signs of life. The offense certainly did them no favors, directly and indirectly contributing to our opponents scoring points. And even though some of the most recently played teams struggle on offense, we held them pretty tight considering we don’t really have an FBS secondary. I mean we literally have two FCS transfers starting!

We’re clearly now a run first team, but it took us a few games to realize this. I wonder if we had started the year with the run first mentality, would some of those games gone differently?  🤷🏽‍♂️

We tried the "run first" mentality against UAB when they were basically daring us to run.  Didn't go so well.  Our run blocking was horrendous earlier in the year, but has improved significantly.

I don’t remember the game very well, so I’ll take your word.

UAB allowed 52 yards rushing against UTSA.  Maybe it was a combo of their defense and our offensive struggles.

What is frustrating is that a year ago we were say if we only had even a middle of the pack defense with Seth's offense we would be challenging for championships. Well we got a much improved D (PPG from 42.8 to 27.9 / YPG from 522 to 379), but sadly the O has fallen from 34 PPG to 27, and yards from 513 to 439.

Our P5 transfer qb didn’t work out like we thought, our star running back went down before the season, our big play 6’5” Georgia transfer receiver went down in week 2, and before week three we lost our other deep threat Shorter. Throw in the week 5 loss of Simpson and you could understand a dropoff from last season, ESPECIALLY considering we lost a 19 touchdown wide receiver to the 4th round of the NFL draft.
