As Far As I'm Concerned, Enough Has Been Said...

I'd be happy with either Fuente or Carthel. One thing to note

Carthel is 12-16(so far) in his three seasons at SFA

Fuente is 17-16(so far) in his last three seasons at VT.

Carthel is a rising star for sure, but I'd be wary about his potential success at the FBS level.

Fuente, on the other hand has helped build up 2 FBS programs(TCU and Memphis), and despite recent down years (with SKY HIGH expectations from the fanbase and donors), he still has a winning record at VT.

Fuente is my preferred candidate with Carthel being second if those are our only options. I'd be willing to bet there will be a lot more than just two coaches vying for this job when it opens.

Let's compromise 😈 - Fuente as the HC, and Carthel as the DC 😇

It makes sense for VATech fiscally to wait.   They save almost the entirety of Littrell's buyout amount by waiting.    Not sure how much NT saves by waiting.

VT won’t wait. Would kill recruiting. They will come to an early agreement.

Who knows, but you are right, a program that had not had a losing season since 1992 is now faced with Fuente delivering potentially three in four years. This despite the fact that he is getting paid roughly 2.5 times what Seth is.

Sounds exactly the same as our situation. I can't believe Seth came in and screwed up all the momentum we had built up under Dickey/Dodge/McCarney. He has just run this program into the ground.

Show me the championships.  Dickey can.

Graham Harrell didn’t find Mason Fine. SL did because of his ties to Oklahoma.

I seem to remember a different story but the basic scenario remains true. But here's the story..

I think it safe to say none of our coaches, or anyone else scouted and recognized Mason's potential. Seth made a call to a friend, and we got a hidden gem.

correct, no one in FBS did.

Fuente's Hokies blow out Duke this week.
He looks to be on the same train as Littrell (except he already has 1 more win than Littrell): Outwardly, he has 2 more games left to win 1 and get to bowl eligibility!   Behind the scenes, decision makers are counting down the clock to December 15th.

I actually think (especially if UAB happens to spoil UTSA this weekend) Littrell's road to coaching with his current school next season is easier than Fuente's.  Of course, Littrell could lose this weekend and Fuente could win both of his next two, and I'd believe the opposite.

Now ancient history, but Fry was not close to being .500 at SMU the day he signed on with UNT in December, 1972.

Personally, I think Neal Smatresk & Wren Baker already know exactly what they are going to with our coach as UNT embarks with a future as a member of the American Athletic Conference.  At this stage of the game 1 or 2 more wins won’t make a bit of difference in their overall Big Picture. (May be wrong, but am just going on both their recent history).

Also,
I'd like to point out that all of these prognostications were made prior to NT beating UTSA (and, if we're being honest, no one thought we were going to do that), which forced Wren to hang onto Littrell, at least through the bowl game.

Of course, I'm thrilled we won that game, and look forward to whipping Miami, OH.   I am just hoping for better than .500.
