Shaq very cleverly overshadowed Rudy T's hiring of LA's coach today with the announcement he would accept a trade to Miami. I heard an expert on espn radio (didn't catch his name) that said he thinks this trade will be processed Monday and be a done deal.

Miami gets:

Los Angeles gets:

I think this is a smart move for Shaq, the East won't be as physically taxing, he gets his warm weather, and will have a backcourt of Dwayne Wade and Eddie Jones. Not bad at all.

The Lakers will also get a first round pick. That sounds nice but if the Heat have a good record, that pick will be late first round and you will be taking someone that is borderline first round and they get guaranteed money. Most teams try to get rid of those picks, or draft a European they can let stay overseas for two years anyway.

I was confused on why the Lakers would settle on this for Shaq, but I heard (NT's own) Mark Followill say this just shows the Lakers were hell-bent on sending Shaq to the East. Because you the Kings and Mavs probably had better offers.

Looks like His Airness wants to be a part of the Heat. Things are getting crazy in the NBA, and who would have thought the Miami Heat would be the focal point of it?

Fallowill just said that Mark Cuban talked on the Mavs summer league game last night on NBA TV. He said he talked to Kupchak twice, Dirk's name never came up, and Kupchak never called him back. It sounds like Shaq was headed to the best offer from the East to begin with.
