I think another attraction of UNT is if Memphis and SMU leave they could stay at 12 and still be in the DFW market.

I disagree.  

AAC reached out to the MWC teams, AFA and CSU were extremely tempted and wanted to make the jump, why?  Because they recruit heavily in Texas and they want to have games in Texas.  Specifically, they want away games in recruiting hotbeds so they can invite Texas recruits to see them.

Now, they were unwilling to make the jump this time because they didn't want to be separated from Boise. 

 

What the AAC has done is take away all the  Texas recruiting hotspots from the MWC.  In the future, AFA/CSU are going to have to decide which is more important, getting those Texas recruits, or sticking in the MWC.  

If Boise does leave for the B12, it should be much easier for the AAC to pull them out if they want them.

Non-sequitur and non-responsive.   No doubt the AAC going to 14 was a great move on there part to block the MWC from coming into Texas and to have hedge in case more teams jump to the Big 12.   Not to mention the added side effect of killing off CUSA.  All of which are reasons they went to 14 over 12, and we are very glad they did, because as #13 and #14 we got lucky.

CUSA isn't going to die.  It would be great for us if they disbanded because it would save us the fees, but they'll limp along to gather those.

NT is moving to the AAC because we have spent $130M in facilities in the last decade, and we have a total coaching pool higher than some P5 schools.  Commitment, commitment, commitment from the school and the donors.  That is why, that's not luck.

If the AAC had not expanded to 14, we would have moved to the MWC.  Again, not luck.

 

Some of you are in a tizzy because we are bad on the field right now.  It doesn't help that UTSA has caught lightning in a bottle with their last coaching hire.  However, believe it or not we are in a better position.  

Neither of us is the top of the food chain, any good coaching hires we have will get poached.   Having the better underlying program will make it more likely that you can hire another promising coach.

At the end of this year, NT and UTSA are both likely to be looking for new coaches.  NT will have a better program to sell candidates.  That's what really matters.  No matter how much this particular year sucks.

Amazing how some people like to shit on this athletic department just because of a couple of bad years in football. Every other vast improvement in athletics, be damned
