Could a consistent deep run in the tourney for men and women bball be a smoother path to a better conference for unt, because the football team constantly drops the ball when its time to show up. Could we spend more money and focus raising the bball program to semi elite status snd slip into a better situation. Im just asking. Dont really know how the ncaa politics work. Someone enlightened me please..

I've been on this boat for a while now. Historically, if your team isn't a good football program, you focus on basketball. That forms your decisions with regards to conference, resources, etc. North Texas is in a weird position where it is sitting on the fence. You can tell they want to be a football program, but it just isn't happening. It's far too late to go all in on basketball though, since they've already sunk so much money into football. I'm not sure where you go from here, but if basketball is your primary concern, sticking around WKU, ODU, etc. wouldn't be a bad idea.

The fanbase here still wants to win in football more than any other sport.  It has the most potential for revenue.  After all the investment in Apogee, IPF, salaries, etc. cutting our losses would be a major mistake.  I understand the pessimism, but this team is very close to turning the corner.  Competition is tough, but as our enrollment continues to grow, we will continue to grow our resource pool.  If you're talking about wanting to be a Dayton or something like that, no thanks.  Gimee fall Saturdays.  Our basketball program is excelling and I want that to continue just as much as anybody else, but not at the expense of the football program.

Conference realignment is a misnomer.  It should be referred to football program realignment as that's what's driving bus in all of this.  Every other sport is a passenger.  Good or bad, that's the way it is.
