I don't remember reading about this before either.

Yes, you are correct this is new and kudos to Don Vito for uncovering it.  Vito references the new clause that was added which basically forces Littrell to go after a coodinator job once he is canned here and his new school can't lowball offer his salary and make UNT keep paying him.  People here need to understand, Dan McCarney never even tried to get another job after being fired here and that really hurt UNT in terms of his buyout.  Similar situation as to what happened with Skip Holtz after he got canned at USF, La Tech was able to hire him at a low amount because he was still getting paid by USF.   My guess is after another 4 win season Wren came in and told Seth we need this clause to ensure that you are given another year to right the ship without malice.  It probably also gave them some room to bring in PB and his son in law and Gush et al.

Wow, this is potentially huge for the program. Glad Wren had the manbits to put this together, props to him. Fingers crossed Seth pulls it together.

Thanks for the info!

I mean, he's not going to resign himself to an ended coaching career if he gets canned here, but how do you enforce this?
He could take an "analyst" job at Oklahoma (without a "salary"), and say that he "looked" for a job but couldn't find one.  NT would still be on the hook for every penny owed.

I really agree with you as Littrell will immediately get hired as a P5 coodinator most likely.  I think we should label this the "McCarney" clause because he was fairly unique in retiring after being an FBS head coach.  I also think in Danny Mac's defense he had a number of serious health issues that precluded him from being hired as well.

Seth is still a dream OC for any staff. He’s youngish, and will be in high demand, so I don’t see him being idle very long

Yeah,
But unless there's some kind of enforcement, he can be picky.
He wouldn't have to take the Virginia Tech OC job (for example) if he thought he could wait around a year as an "analyst" at some superpower school, then hit the market the following season & get a better opportunity.
