CUSA Athlete of the year

Recommended Posts

Pretty sure it hasn’t been posted, even in the JD thread, but him and Hope were nominated for CUSA athlete of the year in men’s and women’s.

If one of the 2 can win, or even both, (you could make a case that both are the best in the conference in their gender) that would be back to back and the 3rd school to have back to back athlete of the year awards. (Rice for women’s basketball and UTEP for track)

Our athletes have been racking up the awards in the past 4 years.

Making a case for Darden to win:

Darden was a consensus All American, 3rd in receiving yards in the nation, 5th in Touchdowns in the nation, 2nd in the receiving category of touchdowns, 5th in receptions (2-3 less games than the top 4 but had 74 and that goes with the rest of the stats)

3rd player in CUSA to be drafted as well.

Bassey wasn’t on an all American team but honorable mention, didn’t win the tournament nor NIT, choked and fouled out of the championship game, got bullied by Zach and Abou in the championship, not even top 50 last year in PPG, 6th in rebounds.

I know he can’t single handedly win games, but wasn’t making big plays and contributing like he would usually do in several big games last season.

All the others I don’t have much for. McCormick was good but just offensive MVP. Definitely one of the best RBs in the nation though.

Making a case for Hope:

Had the first perfect game with 21 strikeouts (every batter). Don’t care if it was against Arkansas Pine Bluff, that’s still extremely hard to do.

Best ERA in cusa, 2nd in wins, best win loss record, 3rd most innings, 1st in strikeouts by a mile, least amount of hits allowed among pitchers with more than 15 starts (main starters), Pitcher of the year, cusa first team, lead nation in saves, top 20 in strikeouts in the nation.

This alone is extremely impressive.
