RV, did you hear that?

Glad you posted this. One thing Rick really got right was putting Mean Green and North Texas out there front and center over the generic “Eagles.”
I know the name predates him becoming AD of course but he made a deliberate decision to put Eagles aside and really get Mean Green recognized as our brand. It is paying off as we are a nickname favorite during this tournament and the first round win really solidified that.

Actually...

My point was that RV insisted (for football) that the helmets were marked with "North Texas", and didn't have a logo.  You might say we didn't have even have a logo until the University's branding initiative, and then RV refused to put the logo on the helmet until the Heart of Dallas bowl vs. UNLV.  His rationale was that nobody would know who we were otherwise.

But your point is valid - the administration had disposed of the name "Mean Green" after Hayden Fry left, and RV did recognize the value of the uniqueness of the name, and the history of the years using that name, and brought it back.  So yes, kudos to RV for that.

I did not like how RV refused to use UNT. Thank god that was reversed when he left.

Indeed. I thought a long time ago UNT was the branding direction we needed to go. North Texas by itself just comes off as 2nd rate. That has been a job well done by Wren and Co. Now fix football. Excited to watch tonight.

This is the first and only time I've felt envious of the folks who live in Indiana. How lucky for them that all of this madness is in their backyards. While we may not have a good opportunity to send many fans to support in person, I think we can win some people over who are just at the games to watch some good basketball.

Meanwhile, it looks like our basketball Instagram profile has gained over 1,000 followers since the Tournament (if I'm remembering numbers correctly) and over 500 Twitter followers.

On Facebook today, there are a number of (presumably) alumni posting, "Go Eagles" or "Go Mean Green Eagles".
