Lol that was the first thing they mentioned. Apparently he goes on their radio show all the time and talks shop a lot. Might have to check him out on the sicem365 site!

They have a podcast presence.  If I can dig up the corresponding release, I'll link to it.

I could have sworn Bennet had ties to UTEP and the old WAC. Can’t find that anywhere, so I’m not sure who I am confusing him with.

Hmmmm his son Sam Bennett was at Rice and works at ASU and some other places, which could maybe be kinda close. Or maybe his brother? Lots of family in football it seems

Excited about this hire. I hope that Seth has been putting the same emphasis on the QB coach and works with Phill to make the other two defensive hires. A base 4-2-5 could see one or both of the Davis boys move back to the extra safety with the OSU linebacker transfer and the twins, Woods, etc. battling for the 2 linebacker spots.

Is it reasonable to ask that our PPG allowed is closer to 20? We were literally 125 out of 127 teams last year (42.8) in PPG allowed.

If we can get to the point where we are allowing ~ 25, I think we will be in incredible position to win those big games and some titles.

Just holding teams to 30 or less would be a drastic improvement and I think a huge success. I think the pieces are there to get it done too.

I’m optimistic about Bennett.

I really hope he brings that 4-2-5.  I think we’ll find out REAL QUICK if the past 2 seasons’ defenses were issues with personnel or coaching.

If Novil comes back & LeBlanc/Pickett play the 3-tech, I expect McCrae’s contributions to jump.  He could possibly be all-conference level if he puts in the work.   Grayson on the other edge.  KD & Gabriel/Tyreke as the LBs.   And the DBs we picked up in the 2018 & 2019 classes were the best players in those classes for the most part, so there are plenty of guys to choose from back there (wish Gibbs was still in the mix there).

I don’t think the issues are personnel.

If Bennett can get them to buy-in, he can coach.  Like I said, all we need is a top-half league defense to win C-USA West.

Anything less than 7 wins next year will be a let down.  I hope we get back to 9 wins, or more!

When I see he says that he "Absolutely loves the guy" it makes me think that he may have called Seth during the season. Maybe he looks at Seth almost like a son. What Dad wouldn't try to help his Son that he saw failing to get it corrected? Maybe he called him and told him, I can help you fix this defense. Plus with the number of years coaching, he can certainly give Seth some great advice about being a HC. Then maybe if he is looking at him like a son, maybe we get him at a very reasonable price. Hell I know if my son was failing miserably, I would work for free to help him get it fixed. However, Seth is not his son so I know he wants to get paid something, but maybe he will do it for a lot less than normal. Crazy, but I can dream can't I?

I hope this as well, but I think to do that we need a better QB running the show. I certainly see more than 4 wins with an improved defense, but we need better QB play to get back to 9 wins. Just my opinion.

Agree.

Thats why I set the bar at 7.   Non-conference is going to be very tough this year, so that adds another hurdle to get more than 7.
